Joe Frazier would KO all of the 70s fighters and all of the 90s fighters because he is Smoking Joe. And Swagfedeel said so.
70's had more top tier HW's. The standouts in the 90's were Tyson, Lewis and Holyfield who were all great HW champions. If we're ralking about which decade housed better fighters in the HW division, it was surely the 1970's. Frazier, Norton, Ali, Shavers, Holmes, Foreman are superior in numbers to the HW fighters of the 1990's. If we're talking about how the decades would fare in a tournament against one another, I think it would be quite competitive. Lewis in H2H action is a tough out for any HW champion in the history of the sport, especially if Lewis is focused and on his game. I think in a tournament, it would've probably came down to Ali vs Lewis. I'd imagine Ali would be able to eek out a narrow UD in a 15 round fight. I would've loved to seen Joe Frazier against Evander Holyfield. That fight IMO would be one of the most entertaining you can make between a 1970 and 1990 HW.
This is a slugfest. Both men have will power, good chin and are relentless. Evander Holyfield had an opponent resemble Joe Frazier, Dwight Braxton. Braxton was short, compact, strong and relentless. Their first fight went the distance with Evander took everything Dwight had to offer and came back to edge out a close decision. Joe Frazier is a better version of Dwight Braxton. Joe constantly bobbing and weaving his head make it harder to hit him but most of all he has a much bigger left hook. Dwight Braxton stunt Evander several times during that fight. I don't think Evander can take too many left hook from Joe Frazier. Some people will point out that Evander beat Mike Tyson who can punch at least as hard as Joe Frazier but Mike Tyson is not at his prime after the Buster Douglas fight. In that fight Mike never did land flush against Evander. Joe Frazier by unanimous decision after he knock down Evander at least once like the 1st Ali fight.
How about this scenario ? Team 70s Joe Frazier 1971 George Foreman 1974 Muhammad Ali 1974 Ken Norton 1976 Larry Holmes 1979 Team 90s Evander Holyfield 1990 Riddick Bowe 1992 Lennox Lewis 1997 Mike Tyson 1991 Donovan 'Razor' Ruddock 1990 On a league basis, each 70s member fights each 90s member. At the end all the wins are totalled up and the team that scores most victories wins the tournament For my money, the 70s takes it.
Maybe replace him with Moorer instead? i think Moorer would be much more competitive than Ruddock, asides from chin issues

When comparing two eras that were loaded with talent you're going to have a mixed bag of wins and losses on both sides. Without going through every possible matchup I'll take the shortcut by saying that Muhammad Ali ultimately ends up being the best fighter of both groups, but the greater number of wins will likely go to the 90's participants as I feel there was greater depth of talent and athleticism.
