Two of the best counter punching heavies ever, has the chance to turn into a stinker although neither fighter ever engaged in many of those. Who could convince the other to lead. Probably Walcott as Jerry tended to exchange more and pursue after the Ellis bout.
I don't feel Walcott would be all wrong for Jerry, stylistically I always felt fighters with movement that stayed behind a good jab would be his undoing. Ali, Holmes, the K brothers. As it is Walcott is the better fighter so I pick him to win cleanly.

Well, I think Quarry was quite a bit better than Rex Layne...

I was a big Quarry fan, but Walcott would be too good. I'd pick Walcott over Ali, as a matter of fact.

Good point, but Walcott was, at times, erratic. The Walcott who almost beat Marciano would have beaten Lane. Regarding Ali, JJW was faster, smarter, trickier, fitter than Young, and he could punch with KO power.

And Ali was prime when he fought Young?

Hows about the Williams version of Ali? How would Walcott fare against that guy?

After Ali kod Liston Walcott the referee was very pessimistic about his own chances with Ali.
I like Walcott to decision Quarry. Bettter skills, and a better punch imo.

The Williams version? Cleveland was a shell at that time due to being shot by a cop. In fact, he still had the bullet in him when he fought Ali.

So, why do you even bring up the Williams fight then?
