Why do people keep saying it's "equal"? Floyd and Pac didn't tarnish their legacy "equally." Floyd didn't tarnish his legacy period...pac tarnished his BY REFUSING TO BE TESTED FOR PED's FOR THE FIGHT! IT'S PAC WHO REFUSED THE TEST...IT WAS PAC THEREFORE WHO REFUSED THE FIGHT! IT'S ALL PAC'S FAULT. NOTHING TO DO WITH MAYWEATHER! IF ANYBODY'S LEGACY WAS TARNISHED IT WAS PACMAN'S AND PACMAN'S ALONE!
I think both sides are to blame, that's just my personal opinion. When you have a fight THIS big and it didn't materialize when both were at the peak of their powers, than I think there's probably issues from both sides. There's no one on this forum that has hard/concrete evidence as to what happened when they attempted to negotiate the deal a few times. There's just rumors of what was said by both parties, nothing more, nothing less. Both sides are obviously going to say the other guy is to blame, but there's no recordings or video footage to corroborate either sides story. The only one that seems like it has some merit is when FLoyd called him directly and offered a lump sum of 40 million to fight him. the problem is, FLoyd wanted to keep all the PPV revenue, which would've easily made his payday in the 9 figure range had he been able to pull off that stipulation in the contract. I don't blame Pacman one bit for not accepting that deal- essentially it turns out to be something like a 70-30 split which is just ridiculous. I think they're both to blame but as they both keep winning I'm sure they realize the landscape at 147 is a bit weak as far as top tier opposition that can help them get good PPV #'s. Eventually they'll have to meet each other as their PPV #'s continue to wane.
That's right what does Pac bring to the table. Only 2 million buys:yep. There is no way, as Forbes pointed out, that Floyd made as much as he claimed in his last fight because the PPV sales weren't high enough. Imagine if they fought twice in 2015! Floyd would leave every other athlete in the dust. It seems to be a case of cutting off his nose to spite his face.
Well Pacman changed his tune as far as PED testing goes. That's all FLoyd should be concerned about. Not whether or not Pacman's legacy is clouded with possibly being a PED user, but rather that he'll take whatever tests are necessary to get into the ring with FLoyd. I don't think FLoyd should've budged from the PED testing. This isn't baseball, it's a contact sport and the playing field should absolutely be even. BUt there's many different stories as to what both parties said and it's hard to know what's factual and what's subjective. I'm a fan of both fighters and just want to see the fight happen already. When Pacman finally budged from the PED demands, it became a monetary issue at that point between the 2 parties. Hopefully they can settle the stipulations in a mature manner and have this fight come off next May.
At the end of the day they should, have fought ..I look at their recent body of work .As far as the eyeball tests when I look at their actions it's Floyd who doesn't want the fight ..Did he want it in 09 yeah sure fine I'll concede he had the upper hand but it's 2014 are you honestly telling me the most powerful boxer in the sport couldn't get this fight done ? Leave your promoter ,join my company really ? Does that sound like the words of a guy who really wants it ? Nah not buying it and fighting these low risks high reward fights doesn't help is argument..
Boxing is subjective how you view things shapes your opinion personally I thought Pac struggled with Bradley twice, struggled with Marquez twice and looked bad in a uneventful fight with Mosley. I don't see how anyone views either Bradley fight as a domination but that's me.
I just want to go on record as saying I used to be a pacman fan...until he refused to be tested. To me, a fighter or any athlete refusing to be tested for steroids is the most disgraceful act. it's an admission that they have been cheating. Their entire career must then be treated as fraudulent... as a bogus piece of garbage. They should be banned forever from the sport and have all their money taken from them and their names and titles and recognition stricken from history. Barry bonds was the greatest baseball player of all time...he was disgraced due to PEDs...and he never even tested positve! Marion Jones was the greatest track and field athlete of all time and she was disgraced and even went to jail for PEDs...and she never even tested positive! Even lance armstrong lost his reputation and some money over PEDs (he tested positive, but we in america don't really expect him to go through what a black man and black woman have to go through for the same infraction). But pacman continues on his merry way like nothing happened, smiling for the camera, so innocent and ****. He should be banned, disgraced, have everything taken from him...that's what this lying scumbag deserves. Instead, people want floyd to "share" the responsibility of the fight not happening... fcuk that.
You're an idiot. Sorry but someone has to say this. First of all JMM in 2008 JMM was fighting as a super featherweight. Then he went up to lightweight and then Floyd beats him at a catchweight of 144 while coming in at 146. And you're bragging about hauling up someone who was barely a lightweight and insisting he fight at 144 and using his 5 inch reach advantage to beat him? Of course he beat him with ease, why the hell shouldn't he? And as for Maidana, Floyd himself called him a "B" level fighter and yet when I watched the fight I gave 4 round to him and he would have gotten more had he not clearly punched himself out. This never should have been anywhere near this competitive to begin with. So of these two fights you're bragging about, one is taking at best a lightweight and making him go up 9lbs and the other is struggling against what Floyd himself says is a "B" level fighter, and you think this is something to brag about? You really need to watch some of the older fighters cause this is pathetic.
They're not both to blame...do a little research. this is about pacman ONLY. Floyd had NOTHING to do with the fight not happening.
Id' agree with you if it was a boxing commission ordering the tests, but no fighter has a right to dictate testing. Hell I don't even think they should be allowed to dictate ring size or type of gloves. Neither fighter should be able to dictate terms which stack the deck against their opponent. This was the big knock I had against SRL and Floyd's taken it to a new low.
Floyd outweighed JMM by 4 lbs. FOUR!...secondly, floyd hadn't fought in 18 months! thirdly, it was MARQUEZ who challenged floyd. Floy didn't "haul" anybody anywhere...marquez AGREED to the catchweight. Secondly, Maidana outweighed floyd by SEVENTEEN POUNDS! maidana was a middleweight. floyd is a small welter. That was NOT part of the contract....that was NOT agreed upon. That was maidana trying to even up his B-level deficit with a two-weight class size advantage. Even a great fighter like floyd is not gonna be able to dominate a B-level guy who comes in at 17-20 lbs over the welterweight class. So, you're the moron here.
Yes it is. I don't think he ever struggled with Bradley but looked lackluster in the first fight. On the other hand I don't think he ever didn't struggle with JMM. Mosley should have hung it up after Mayweather. He fought to survive vs Pac and is solely responsible for stinking up that fight. Floyd struggled with Castillo but won the rematch. He looked lackluster against Oscar and Maidana. In my eyes, that is.:admin
This is crap, because Floyd' not the boxing commission he's just a fighter and has no business trying to stipulate clauses that other fighters don't have to abide by and then not fighting because the opponent doesn't agree to them. What's next, Floyd's going to insist Manny run a marathon the day before the fight. I mean for ****'s stake, just fight. All the other opponents Manny fought were apparently okay with the rules as they stand, and JMM was even able to KO manny, so this PED issue is complete and utter BS.
The stuff about leave your promoter is a bit much but I can't be mad when the other side says the same thing sign with TR if you want Pac add in that all this started when Arum was talking about why is GBP calling me its understandable I don't like it but I understand it. And I agree that in 14" Mayweather is the one holding up the fight and again though I don't agree I understand people are only human from what I've seen Mayweather stopped pursuing the fight after Pac arguably and imo lost 3 straight fights from JMM 3-JMM 4 when most people officially stopped caring.
it's been proven that the tests the commission orders are easy to beat. they are too lenient...because the tests are expensive. this is why when floyd offers the oluympic style testing, which is used by a RECOGNIZED and REPUTABLE INTERNATIONAL GOVERNING BODY, pac has NO EXCUSE to say NO...HE HAS NO EXCUSE AT ALL! Y'all need to quit this bogus "manny refused because floyd is tryna ditctate terms" bull**** argument. A lotta fighters NEGOTIATE terms...they negotiate catchweight, gloves, ringsize all kinds of stuff. So, we're gonna pick on THIS ONE THING and say mayweather was out of line to make it a part of the negotiation? Look, mayweather was gonna take THE SAME TEST!...NO excuse for pacman. This was pacman's fault ALONE and NOBODY ELSE'S!...that's the truth
