Do Lewis' win over Tyson and Calzaghe's over RJJ hold any credibility?

No, they really wasn't. Prime for prime Lewis and Calzaghe wasn't beating Tyson and Jones. I believe Tyson and Jones was better and was win in a battle in their primes. The wins that was happened was actually both good wins for Lewis and Calzaghe despite Tyson and RJJ both being corpses unable to rise from the walking dead. So yes, both wins was good for a legacy standpoint but that was all it was...was good.

Whats interesting about the Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson fight is that Emmanuel Stewart actually said something along the lines of Mike Tyson was passed his best days when Lennox beat him and that fight was more so for "name recognition".

Although they were roughy similar in age I think they both just happen to peak at different times. A young Tyson would have probably beaten a young Lewis. However, I don't consider the Tyson fight a focal point of Lewis' career, again, that was more of a money and name recognition type of fight and not necessarily legacy building.

Joe Clazaghe-Roy Jones, on the other hand was really an awkward fight that didn't actually need to happen. Jones had piled up some wins over 2nd tier fighters, struggling former Olympians, and previously retired Welterweights but I don't really think anything he'd done was note worthy.

One of the reasons why I wasn't impressed with Joe Clazaghe's win over Roy Jones was because it really looked like a calculated attempt to add the Roy Jones name to his resume'. The fight had no significance in the division, Jones was obviously past it, and Calzaghe had the option facing better fighters. Antonio Tarver, Glen Johnson, a young Chad Dawson, even a rematch with Bernard Hopkins….and over all of that he picked Roy Jones Jr. and then gracefully rode off on his white horse like that was a suitable farewell fight.

 

Prime vs Prime

Lennox gets knocked out in about 6 rounds , Tyson won the 1st round quite clearly if you remember.

Roy destroys Joe in any round he wants to.

 

I loved the way Lewis played with Tyson and then destroyed him with one punch. LMAO!

 

I'm British, and get so fed up with so many Brits claiming Calzaghe's win over RJJ had any merit. Christ anyone who didn't see that fight to be a complete farce is just a deluded twat with an agenda. RJJ was long gone. Hell he still managed to knock Calzaghe down in the first round.

And I have to laugh at people comparing their handspeeds, saying Calzaghe matches him in handspeed. Who gives a **** about a bunch of slaps?? RJJ threw punches just as fast if not faster, and with POWER. That to me in 10 times more impressive. RJJ would have beaten Calzaghe in his prime.

As for Lewis vs Tyson, Tyson was clearly a shell of himself. Could still take a punch, but other than that, by that point, was mainly fighting for cash, and became a one-dimensional head-hunter looking for that one shot, instead of throwing combinations, and he also stopped moving his head.

That being said, Prime Tyson vs Lewis would be an interesting fight, hard to call that one. Either one could potentially walk away with a victory.

 

What ? Lewis all but ended the fight in the fIrst round. Tyson came charging in praying to land something big but lewis drilled him with a uppercut that hurt Mike and that was really already the end for Mike. Mike landed a single clean left hook that didn't even make lewis flinch. Tyson didn't win 1 second of that fight but now somehow won the 1st on your card clearly ? So up to the ko it must've been a fairly even fight in your card , no ?

 

They both really shoudda fought em sooner.

However Tyson was still capable of being in contention for world titles whereas Jones was shot2**** and on his 40something paycheck eurobum tour, which began with joe cowardzaghe (appropriate name given he waited for jones to turn into a Parkinsons ridden 40 year old Ali before daring to face him, used him to duck a prime fighters who would beat Joe, and then whooping with joy and jumping up and down on winning a fight that anyone who wasn't as crap as jeff lacy could win).
