My feeling is unless you have a legit medical reason not to run -- like a doctor telling you not to do it -- then do it.

It's the fundamental way to get in shape for boxing. Not only do you increase your cardio/stamina, you need to build leg muscles to move and to punch and to absorb what the other guy brings -- it's your base.

Boxing isn't a comfortable sport. You're going to be in the ring with someone who is going to be doing everything he can to make you uncomfotable. If running is a discomfort to you, then it also has the benefit of mentally conditioning you to work through discomfort to keep going. If you train your mind to think about your fundamentals when you run, you will learn that discomfort is a distraction that can be overcome -- which come in handy when some guy is making you uncomfortable in the ring.

    That's what I think.

You don't need a legit reason not to run. Don't be ridiculous.

If the guy gets discomfort in his knees and hips, running won't toughen him up, it'll **** him up. Seriously awful advice. There's a huge difference between pushing your body hard and being an idiot and pushing through pain until you injure yourself.

Also, distance running does not in any way build leg muscles. Sprinting does, not distance.

    100% agreed.

I'm sure with ''building'' he meant developing i.e. making stronger, not building as in body building.

When I said distance running does not in any way build leg muscles, I meant both strength and size.

Running kills legs, in fact most things.do :D Isaac Newtons to blame the bounder. Most exercise does though. There are ways round it.
