That was my view when I saw the fight.

After 6 rounds I had Maidana up by a point. For example, round 3 I scored for Maidana based on the fact that Floyd got hurt at the end of the round.round 4 Maidana.Round 5 even, floyd busier but got countered wih the jab a lot.Roud 6 Maidana based on agression.

After 12 rounds I would score it a draw or a close win for Floyd.I had Floyd up by a point in the first fight.

If you watch closely you will notice that Floyd missed a lot of punches.Especially the counter right hand.
This is kind of confirmed by the punch stats which were not dominating in favour of Floyd.

Il believe the judge who gave it 115-112 Floyd was most accurate.
Also the way Floyd fought, holding so much and running should be penalized on the scorecards in my view.

I think the fight was maybe closer by one point on the last two scorecards but it was clear that Floyd won the fight. The stat percentage was all Mayweather.

  3. I thought both Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana looked rather unimpressive compared to their recent form. I thought Maidana’s (or Garcia’s, rather) gameplan was simply terrible. "Pacing" yourself by just chasing him around the ring, sometimes abandoning the jab is terrible. Some of us were right in regards to the fact Maidana coming in lighter was not smart. He had trouble cutting off the ring and keeping Floyd on the ropes. Mayweather adjusted in this fight, clearly. He used more lateral movement, more counter rights and most importantly clinched on the ropes. As for how I saw the fight, I had it 115-112, but honestly I gave Maidana a lot of swing rounds based on a few bigger blows. I think the fight was 115-112 or 116-111 for Floyd. Credit to the judges for having viable scorecards. It was a clear win for Floyd, but once again, I was genuinely unimpressed with either. I also thought Bayless did a bad job, and that is rare. He really broke clinches very early, and the point deduction was pretty blasphemous if you ask me. Floyd’s legs still look pretty good, by the way, which was a question heading into the fight.

The undercard was garbage. Like, absolute garbage. The extreme fight was pretty bad, at least for me, as I was rooting for Molina. Soto clearly won. I was rooting for Angulo, but I mentioned to the friend I was watching it with how terrible he looked at the start of the fight (rd 1). He was incredibly sluggish, failed to pull the trigger and looked incredibly SLOW. I feel bad for him but at least he got one last nice payday. The winner was sharp. Good handspeed and skills. Vasquez – Bey fight sucked and I was watching it half-heartedly. Vasquez was pretty much robbed, IMO. 119-109 was a dumb ass scorecard. Erasing that fight from my memory …. LSC vs. Roman was a joke since Roman was a former sparring partner.

Just a shitty card all around that I will do my best to forget. As for what is next ….

Mayweather should fight Pacquiao. There is no other fight I am interested in. Manny really only has Floyd & Marquez 5, too, in my opinion.
Maidana should re-match Broner. Broner is coming off of a decent win and Maidana could enhance the resume with another win.

I may have to rewatch it also. Not disputing Floyd won, it just did not look like a dominating performance.floyd does not punch very often and when he does he often missed or hi the gloves in my view.

I agree with the op, the fight was a lot closer than most people are saying. I don't score points when someone is constantly holding and running to avoid punishment. The way to score a fight is based on clean punching, ring generalship and defense. What Floyd was doing was not defense or ring generalship. Holding excessively does not qualify as defense, and running does not qualify as ring generalship. I saw a different fight than a lot of people. Floyd to me looked very uncomfortable and resorted to cheap tactics to avoid engaging. It's no coincidence that he looked more busted up and maidana didn't have hardly a mark on him. Floyd used a lot of smoke and mirrors to make It look like he was winning rounds. I think It was a close fight and the ref was a major factor by constantly breaking up the action and not letting maidana fight to his strengths.

Yes "smokes and mirrors" cause a lot of these punches looked good to the crowd but if you watch closely they were not landing.

Definitely, ring generalship is what a pernell whitaker did for example against Chavez. Running and holding, that is not ring general ship in my view.

All 3 judges scored the 3rd round for Floyd.

However, Floyd was hurt at the end of the round. That is why you can reasonably score the round to Maidana. It is not like Floyd totallly outclassed Maidana before in the round.

In that case, the scores of the judges would have been even closer. Honestly, I am quite surprised about the number of people who think that this was landslide for Floyd. The crowd, commentators and the illusion of Floyd's style certainly played their role in it.

I thought Floyd landed better than he did in the 1st fight and with more regularity. Bayless basically made it impossible for the fight to be close.
