anybody see the documentary JC Chavez? chavez lived in an ordinary house with his kids and wife. he made a house for his mom also quite ordinary
Nothing new here. He, told julio to sign blank contracts too. Robbed terry norris, was forced to pay a 7 million dollar settlement!! Robbed, every major fighter under his control. Read that book jack newfield!! But, that ******* thomas hauser praises him & arum!!
Sure did, and now Arum is trying to do the same thing to his son, but Junior doesn't want to fall for the Okey-Doke like his father did. Top fighters are trying to jump off the Top rank ship like Europeans running from invading Huns.
Don King: his life a crimes was an eye opening book, loved it. It will givey you both a new appreciation for genius and hatred of his unscrupulousness.
King is a scumbag, that is well-known. I don't know how much he stole from Chavez though. Chavez's problems might have been a lot of his own doing (and the Mexican govt. just being really tough with taxes). Chavez had a big entourage like many athletes, had all sorts of substance abuse issues. Who knows how much money he squandered away due to that?
His house got shot up once....apparently some guys were drunk and they decided "we should have fun when we're wasted, let's shoot up Chavez's house!".
He also made the Randall fight in January knowing Mexicans are eating tameles and drinking beer for 4 weeks due to the holidays :-(
Please. Julio Cesar Chavez made millions with King, and Chavez had one of the biggest entourages you'll ever see. King even tried to get Chavez to take English lessons to make more money on endorsements, but Chavez refused to learn it. Chavez just blew his money. Don King has made more than 100 boxers MILLIONAIRES. Nobody talks about all the "ordinary" fighters King promoted who earned MILLIONS and didn't deserve it thanks to him. They just bring up Ali, Holmes, Tyson and Witherspoon. Regarding Ali, the fact is, King paid Ali MILLIONS OF DOLLARS per fight, and the Nation of Islam took half right off the top. King didn't gouge Ali. King paid Ali the biggest purses of his career. King "supposedly" robbed Ali when King promised Ali $8 million for the Holmes fight and "ONLY" paid Ali $7 million (still the largest payday of Ali's career), and Ali accepted $50,000 or $100,000 in a suitcase in exchange for the rest. The truth is today most athletic commissions wouldn't have paid Ali at all for that fight. They would've held (or tried to hold) his entire purse for non-perfomance. They would've banned Angelo Dundee because Dundee (Ali's trainer) let a guy zapped on weight loss drugs compete. Or the fight wouldn't have taken place at all because Ali would've failed both the prefight and postfight drug tests. Ali was jacked up on drugs to make weight, and how Nevada AND HIS TRAINER (let him in the ring) still boggles my mind. Dundee and the Nevada Commission were responsible for the entire fiasco. Instead, after his awful performance, everyone ran for cover and then blamed KING for ONLY paying Ali $7 million - like that was the root of all Ali's problems. Jesus. Ali was lucky he got it. When Audley Harrison fought David Haye, the British Boxing Board of Control held his purse and tried to prevent Audley from getting paid for non perfomance. Ali didn't fight any better than Audley did, and Ali was cheating and on performance enhancers on top of that. Regarding Tyson, when Tyson got out of jail broke, King signed him to a $100 million deal with the MGM Grand. And Tyson went on a huge spending spree. He blew nearly everything he made. And when he started running out of money, he accused King of robbing him. But after Tyson dumped King, Tyson signed with Shelley Finkel, and Tyson made another $40 million up to and including the Lewis fight, and he blew all that, too, and filed for bankruptcy. Why doesn't Shelley Finkel get blamed for Tyson going broke? Tyson wasn't broke when he worked with King. Just about everyone Shelley Finkel has worked with has filed for bankruptcy. He's supposed to be this financial wizard. That guy always skates by. Truth is, for every Tim Witherspoon, who was dumb enough to sign one bad deal after another, there are 10 guys who King made rich, when no one else was offering them as much. After Tony Tucker's dad (along with Shelley Finkel and Emanuel Steward and Dennis Rappaport), robbed Tucker blind and took 90 percent of his money, and Tucker retired and became addicted to drugs ... King brought him back, got him ranked, got him a mandatory shot with Lewis and a big money payday, and he maneuvered Tucker into another mandatory shot with Foreman (who ditched his belt). After Tucker lost to Seldon, King maneuvered Tucker into a Vacant WBO title shot, which Tucker lost to Hide. Same with Golota. After everyone was done with Golota after the Bowe and Lewis fights, King got Golota title shots with Byrd, and Ruiz and Brewster and made him a million bucks along the way. King's no angel, but he's made as many millionaires as some internet companies have. He's a legend. As far as I can tell, the only guy he shortchanged legitimately was Tim Witherspoon. Why, I don't know. Because he took very good care of many other fighters. Pick up Earnie Shavers' book. Earnie still loves Don King to this day. When Earnie lost all his money after boxing, King even gave Shavers a job. A lot of people in boxing (publicists, photographers, etc.) have worked for King's company for many years. King still - to this day - gives away free fight tickets to U.S. soldiers who show up to his fights in uniform. He seems to be loyal to people who are loyal to him. If you don't want to work with him, but are forced to, he's going to look for ways to take advantage of you (because he feels you're looking for ways to do the same to him).
What? atsch The fight was on January 29. It's King's fault Chavez can't control himself during training camp? When a fighter doesn't properly prepare for a bout, it's usually the trainer's fault ... or the fighter's fault ... not the promoter's fault. Unless Don King is involved, then he apparently is the one who was supposed to wake up Julio, watch everything he ate, and oversee all his training. Randall was supposed to be an easy win for Chavez. King certainly didn't want Randall to win. Randall's upset victory sort of screwed up all their plans.
