Some of Frazer's title challengers were awful. At least Wach was big, and as I say, 'roided up. Apart from one shot, Wlad put on a clinic, with little to no clinching.
At least he was big?atsch Which would you say are Wach's two best wins? You know , the wins that qualified him for a heavyweight title shot?:think
Wlad is fairly active, what's the issue fighting everyone he can? I never said Wach was a good win, as before it was only a rebuttal to those who say Wlad only beats those much smaller than him. Anyway, Wach has beaten some decent journeymen and that is it. He wasn't worthy of a shot, neither was Mormeck, Leipai and a few others. Who should Wlad have fought instead? How was Tony Ross worthy of a title shot?
And? He didn't hit him clean again. Joe Louis got dropped plenty of times. It's not an issue unless you're deliberately trying to nit pick to further an agenda.
Ross qualified because of the colour of his skin. Don't blame Johnson for him blame the white public. Oh, the reason there was little clinching in the Wach fight was because Wlad was in with a man bigger than himself that he couldn't lay all over. Wlad shines because the division is **** ,his number one contender has the skills of a journeyman. My problem with Wlad is even when fighting the dross that the division is comprised of he still fights like he is in there with Kong Kong. I've never seen him in an entertaining fight that he won. The Germans loved Sven Ottke ,and Henry Maske, they will rave about anyone, fighting in the US Wlad would be booed out of the ring. I give Wlad and his brother kudos for conducting themselves as champions outside the ring but their opposition has been pretty dire.
Ive already stated Wlad is stylistically terrible for Johnson, what I'm doing is objectively looking at him as a HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION.
EDIT: I wasn't suggesting your agenda was that Johnson would beat Wlad! I remembered your posts on that part of the discussion :good This content is protected This content is protected
Despite the revivalist phases that bring swooning enthusiasm over Johnson (Unforgivable Blackness, Pollack book), cooler heads would agree with the above statement. He is undeniable as a social and sporting trailblazer but his record and the filmed evidence provide only the above estimation.
Thanks, it has been considered a controversial opinion by some, though I am not intending to ruffle any feathers.
Not referring to you, you didn't get antsy at all, was referring to other times Ive expressed dismay at Johnson's lofty (admittedly mythical and pointless in the grand scheme of things) all-time ranking :good
Vlad bust Johnson up badly, may be an ugly fight but Vlad possesses weapons that were not available in Johnson day, Vlad dominant KO sometime before 9
I rank him extremely highly but again who is to say? If the greats of yesteryear were magically metamorphisized to the present,I'm sure we would see upsets on both sides of the respective eras.
