Hopkins > Jones for me. This fight cements it. To my mind, hes now overtaken Roy (especially if he beats Kovalev). I believe you have to take into account their post-2003 body of work. While many (Rafael etc) have stated that they dont believe Joness deterioration should be counted against him, I believe it should, just as Hopkinss longevity and ability to adjust his style is one of his greatest feats. After all, beating guys like Shumenov and Murat is what Jones spent his prime years doing! RJJ, in my view: a.) Was never the true champion in any single division he fought at. b.) Had distinctly average technique, which was masked by extraordinary athleticism (and exposed once the reflexes slipped just a tad). c.) Ushered in the era of HBO-funded mismatches, thanks to his absurd contracts and enormous guarantees regardless of opposition. I dont think history will be too kind to him, and I actually think his legacy has been quite damaging to the sport. Hopkins, on the other hand, will be looked at favourably by generations to come. Theyll forget fights like Dawson and focus on his extraordinary achievements against the likes of Trinidad and Pavlik. Good for Popkins!
I think Hopkins has surpassed Jones in all time greatness, but h2h at their peaks I'll always pick RJJ. At his best the guy was a once in a lifetime phenom.
h2h. jones. atg ranking, he has a case to surpass jones. imo, jones beating bhop and toney in their primes is still better than anything on bhop;'s resume. bhop is definitely above corpsejr by fighting kovalev alone. if he beats kovalev, joecal >>> corpsejr too.
hmmm, seems like only corpsejr resume only gets better when his previous opponents win, right? the point is, no one gave a stock when joecal wins against bhop and jones citing they were both past their primes. well bhop disagreed. and joecal went up a division, iirc, to fight both, on his farewell tour. means he himself was on his last legs. again, joecal win on bhop is better than any win on corpsejr's career. you can disaggrree.
i can agree with that. I would even go as far as to say that hopkins has accomplished more especially at his age
No matter how he does it, how ugly or how close the fight is, if Hopkins finds a way to beat Kovalev I will give him so much credit. Krusher is a whole different breed of "white boy".
Jones Jr is around 30th in my all time rankings. If Hopkins beats Kovalev and Kovalev continues to win big, then Hopkins will shoot up the ATG rankings undoubtedly.
What on earth is this corpsejr. nickname about? I only know who it actually refers to because the jr. part.
