Hopkins is above roy in te ATG list. But roy was a better fighter than bhop. Roy beat the man when they were both close to their best, and that's all that really matters. Prime roy only comes up short 50/50 vs. Prime Ray Robinson when it comes to h2h
Utterly rediculous ! JONES won titles from middleweight to heavy than came back down to recapture the undisputed light hw championship ...Hopkins doesn't come clsoe to those accomplishments. and lets also not forget that Jones never fought smaller guys ..Atlas said it best ,the only reason your beating these guys Hopkins is because they aren't any good " Also wonder of the Same people who, said. Hopkins surpassed Jones were thinking the same thing when he lost to Dawson..
Jones jr was eclipsed by Bernard Hopkins long ago. The list of "contenders" Jones faced over the years included pat time fighters who were policemen, postmen, garbage collectors etc all the time avoiding a rematch with Bernard. Hopkins>>>> Jones and it aint even close
For this day and age its a very good resume. Difficult to compare to past greats who didn't have to deal with divisions being watered down due to alphabet politics. The guy deserves massive credit for seeking out the best fights as often as he does. It always makes me laugh when he gets criticised for fights such as Murat like no other fighter has made nothing but superfights.
AT this stage Hopkins is ahead of Jones on the ATG list and at the very worst, tied. However, you'd have to be drunk on many gallons of English sheep **** Ale to believe that a tie exists between the two. What the hell does Kovalev have to do with it? Kovaleve is basically a nobody and the only reason he can compete with Hopkins is because BHOP is now 50 years old. If Hopkins was 35 again, he'd easily KO the B level Kovalev by round 8. This fight with Kovalev really has no impact on BHOP's legacy. None whatsoever. If BHOP wins, he once again makes history. If he loses, he makes history. When he defeats Kovalev I think the real ststaement will be the exposure of the current crop of fighters like Kovalev, Stevenson and GGG are more hype than substance.
The sad thing is, this is actually true in the case of Richard Frazier for the WBC and WBA title against Jones Jr.
Many fighters need to hold down jobs to stay afloat, even at the world class level. Not calling Frazier anything more than he was (cannon fodder), but the fact remains.
:deal Not every boxer that laces them up is making huge pay days ..I can respect someone who can still hold a job and compete at somewhat of a pro level ..Not everyone is born in to boxing family's like Chaves jr or Mayweather .
someone who drained his opponent to the corpse in the same div they are champions at. ggg "im willing to go down to 154" corpsejr " 147 or no fight" :rofl:hi:
there's a difference between being a great fighter, and being seen as a better one because of what you achieve through longevity I don't think anyone would rate Hopkins above jones for how good they both were, despite the insane longevity of the executioner
