He's probably the greatest-of-all-time at imposing contractual conditions on his opponents that severely marginalise their opportunity for a fair contest.

Anything below 140 I give him credit for above it the resume is a joke and his last four fights are by far some of the weakest opponents anyone could face .

I didn't see many people calling canelo a weak opponent when that fight was made, but the rest is due to showtime giving him free reign on who he wanted to pick. really bad form by them, but my point stands

you're judging him from the time he hit PPV (gatti onwards), so who did you want him to fight?

I agree with you that his resume was more 'honest' below 140, but that's not the topic

Nope. He and Pacquiao fall short of greatness for not fighting each other years back.

Just because one says they can beat the other doesn't mean it's true. Ali and Fraizer got in the ring and proved it, so did SRL and Hearns, Salvador Sanchez and Wilfred Gomez, Whittaker and Chavez etc. :hi:

As far as Canelo people brought into that hype ,not me if a seasoned fighter in Marquez couldn't lay a glove on Him what was Canelo going to do ..The result was exactly as predicted !

His fights at 140 were a joke Brusseles ,Gatti ,Corely,Mitchell ..

Than he moves up to face Baldimor when Margarito was calling him ..

His fight with Oscar gets credit but then doesn't give him a rematch retires for 2 yrs and comes back to fight Hatton and Marquez .After that it just highly questionable !

I mean just look at his last 2 fights I mean. Maidana really ?

This is far from the best ever !

and you'll never hear me say he is 'TBE' for obvious reasons :good
baldomir was definitely an opportunistic 'gimmee', but margarito was only relevant compared to someone like that

Williams and pacman - they are the only 2 I think he's missing :good

Honestly if Floyd had 1 or two more good names I wouldn't even say a thing..But the fact that his last 4 opponents basically sucked is what gets me annoyed ..How do u have such talent and your fighting guys like Ortiz,Gurrero and Maidanda twice ? That's just unacceptable imo !

There were many people called the Canelo fight a mismatch before it was even signed....because it was. Just because the likes of Vivek Wallace (who would basically praise Mayweather farting in the ring, he loves him so much) purposely built up Alvarez knowing Money would totally outclass him, doesn't make it a great opponent / win.

Guerrero, Ortiz and Maidana were joke fights when they were announced; the fact that Maidana surprised everybody in their first fight and earned a second, doesn't change the fact that he wasn't in the same league when initially discussed as a viable opponent.

As for who he should / should've been fighting? Well, in my book; if you've exhausted all options at your current weight class and there's no bonafide threats coming up from the weights below..... (and you have already started calling yourself 'The Best Ever') the only way to go is UP.

He refused to even entertain the idea of facing Martinez at 154 or 160 because he genuinely feared him, so it took Cotto to show him a pair of balls and did what Floyd had been too fearful to do (granted, Cotto took an opportunity to dethrone a physically faded champion....but he gambled and won. Floyd could've taken the same opportunity to enhance his legacy but instead he was too cautious and that boat sailed). He says the same uninterested and cautious things about Golovkin now, yet if he is indeed at that level (The Best Ever) then he should have no qualms about going up and facing him. As for not facing Pacquiao back in 2010 when Pac was an absolute threat to him, well we all know what happened (he's still dragging his heels now).

So, to put this man above the likes of Ray Leonard, Ali, and Robinson is too far-fetched in anyone's eyes.

I've no doubt Mayweather could indeed prove himself to be at that level ......but going on his latest string of opponents, i'd say he is absolutely not.

He needs a recent, career-defining win to really boost himself to that level. His resume would be infinitely enhanced with some genuine threats on there for his last few fights and it would also make the retrospective aspect more valuable as well.

Right now, accept he is best ever....? No way.

Floyd will be remembered for being the best defensive fighter ever and the fact he wouldnt fight his biggest rival,I would place him talent wise top 20 but Id say hes top 30 overall..
