Now keep in mind I had no idea who Algieri was before the Provodnikov bout and thought he was just another can brought in to keep Ruslan busy and watching the first round i was justified in thinking that . . . . Then Algieri took a knee, recovered and despite not being in with top level competition before showed all the attributes of a true champion . . . he showed the heart to continue when he was hurt, the chin to be able to take Provodnikovs power and the boxing ability to inevitably win the fight despite the two point advantage Ruslan had in round 1. Since Pacquiao/Algieri was announced there has been no talk of him as an opponent and all the attention has been put on slandering Mayweather jr Algieri did what very few fighters do in this sport and earned his place with the impressive win to catch the 140 title but instead of being given a few defences is being thrown to the wolves yet again and moved up in weight to fight for the 147 belt and I worry he is seriously being overlooked. Algieri may have bitten off more than he can chew against Manny but no one has paid any attention to him at all which is one of the key things you need to do when promoting a fight . . . . just saying The PPV numbers will likely be low for this fight given Algieris non existant fan base outside the hardcore fans and the fact the fight is being staged in China only to reduce Pacquiao's taxes whilst Algieri will likely be making peanuts its easy to forget about the little guys in the sport, show some ****ing respect
I wouldnt be surprised by a Algieri win. His style will pose a threat and make Manny look bad. They really are overlooking him and I honestly believe that the reason for this is because they're gunning for Mayweather next.
I agree with the OP. While I don't think Algieri should be in this position, I do believe he is being severely overlooked. As any fighter should. Pacquiao's camp wasn't saying anything before the Algieri fight was signed though, so that also means he's just selling his current fight in November.
