Why doesn't Greb have any footage?

Im not 100% convinced but Im convinced to my satisfaction and pretending that you watched Sam Langford-Ian Hague at your buddy Ted Spoons house isnt going to get that fight crossed off that list. As Ive said before, if you can prove it exists do so. You cant so you wont. If anyone else thinks they have footage on this list Id be glad to cross it off. As I said, Ive crossed a few off myself which means things do surface. But generally the fights on this list are not known to currently exist by any REPUTABLE boxing film historian/collector.

 

My mouth waters at most of the fights on that list.

A few that are currently on that list like Langford-McVey (Paris), Carpentier-Gunther Ive come close to getting but they had rotted by the time I got to them. The Ernie Vigh-Soose fight I thought I had purchased but it turned out that it was the Vigh-Orgavon fight which had been accidently put in the case for the Vigh Soose fight.

 

Are there fights on that list that you fell may exist more than others? And outside of Greb if you had to choose a historically significant film from that list to see which one would it be?

 

I would choose Greb-Walker or Greb-Gibbons if I had to choose.

I think there is a strong possibility of at least some of those Carpentier fights existing. Im absolutely mystified as to how Armstrong-Jenkins hasnt surfaced. I think Cerdan-Williams MAY exist. Those are the ones that in my opinion have the highest probability of being out there somewhere.

 

There are large number of lost feature films which were produced from the 1890s to the 1930s. This is despite the fact there were usually a relatively large number of copies produced of a given motion picture to be shown in numerous theaters during a given period of time. In comparison, I would think that far fewer copies were made of fight films for the most part. As a result, I am not surprised that quite a number of fight films are lost.

That is true but there is 107 movies on that list, and a fight film is rather personal. I would think family members, or the fighters themselves wanting to pass down a memory would probably inquire about obtaining some of these films. I could certaintly see fight films slipping through the cracks over time and turning up somewhere rather than a studio owned movie disappearing in some vault.

 

Christ there's some good fights on there that would be absolute prizes if they turned up. Never knew the Gibbons fight was filmed how come the Flowers and Tunney fights aren't listed for Greb? What about Thil/Apostoli from the Carnival of Champions card?

 

Thil Apostoli isnt lost. I have it. Its common.

Im not convinced Greb Tunney was ever filmed despite all the hubub about it. Ive never seen anything to suggest Greb Flowers was filmed.

 

How about any bob Montgomery?

 

Sadly no footage of Bob Montgomery is known to exist.

 

And who are these reputable collectors you allude to but never mention by name?

Correct me if I’m wrong. Weren’t you the guy who said Jeannette vs. Langford did not exist a while back when I said it did?

I think so. My point is I have seen collectors flat out deny what they have. Langford vs Hague is out there.

No Montgomery, no decent footage of Genaro, hardly any Labarba, none of John Henry Lewis in his light heavyweight pomp.....it's painful.
