Roy Jones Sugar Ray Robinson Muhammad Ali Roberto Duran Wilfredo Gomez Sugar Ray Leonard Pernell Whiataker These are the guys I would say definitely look slightly superior prime-for-prime. I think Floyd does belong in the top fifteen though, arguably top 10 (I think I had him at ten when I did this list before, can't remember) so the question isn't stupid or anything.
skills are only proven by their opponents. best skill will emerge in the best opponent, prime for prime. atg's breed fellow atg's in boxing unless they come up with other categories of greatness. he he he
You have to look past his ego but inside the ring, forget the he did not fight so and so at the right time BS, I put Floyd in the top 15 of all time. Now in this era, last 10 yrs, he makes the top 5 but not overall for the sport if you go back to the black and white, not raceatsch, days and watch the golden days. I don't think a real fan puts too much stock in an undefeated record unless you fight the best at their best. Rocky, not the movie, did that back in the day. A fighter learns more from a loss than a win at times and you truly see if a fighter has the right mind set to get back on track and keep going after a loss. That is just my 2 cent GA homegrown view. :smoke
Benny Leonards reputed as the most intelligent craftsman ever by guy's who worked in boxing up until the early 90's Duran had strength, power, work rate and a cast Iron jaw that would have him snearing at Mayweather untill he knocked him out. Add to that his outstanding all round skill set and ability to blend offence and defence as one with fluidity and speed that defies gravity. Pep would move and counter the **** out of FMJ. His footwork and countering ability is unmatched. He was also great at tying up and manovering opponents on the inside like Floyd but better. Gans was ****ing brutal and super skilled. This is a fighter far superior to Floyd without question.
Very well said. Floyd is in the top 2 of his generation but I don't think he's more talented than any of the other top 2 in generations of the past. 00s Pacquiao, 90s Whitaker, Jones Jr. 80s Leonard, Hagler 70s Duran, Napoles 60s Jofre, Ali 50s Robinson, Moore, 40s Robinson, Charles 30s Armstrong, Louis 20s Greb, Leonard 10s Wilde, Kilbane 00s Langford, Gans
against washedup and bums, yes. against atgs in their primes at the right weight class? "im off to africa":rofl:hi:
Jones Jr has more raw talent than Floyd, but Floyd has more skills. But Floyd is one of the men in this sport who came in with extreme talents that enhanced the skills he had. Roy was a mega extreme talent who had some boxing skills but got by becuase he was so much faster, athletic and unmatched reflexes that saw him dominate for a decade.
