NBC Boxing: Thabiso Mchunu vs. Garrett Wilson RBR

Round 3

Mchunu is landing stiff right jabs flush, almost hurting Wilson more with the jab than with the left crosses banging him square on the nose at just as high a connect rate. Mchunu is bashing Wilson away, denying his attempts to flop in and use his raw physical strength to gather Mchunu into a clinch by chopping down on Wilson's head and neck with left hands. Mchunu keeps the right jab in Wilson's face at every distance.

Round 4

Mchunu is swinging his right arm out front, turned sideways to face Wilson, flipping jabs up at him from mid-range. Wilson is trying to shove his left jab up into Mchunu's brow, getting halted and frozen in place by Mchunu's counter jabs and quick left hands shot up and over from a cannon below his chin. Mchunu backs away from a heavy double right hand by a charging Wilson, putting his chin down and leaning back and taking all of Wilson's big punches just skimming across the chest while dancing away.

Round 5

Mchunu is ducking and sidestepping, throwing either hand out to parry or counter when the right hand of Wilson comes sailing in, high and telegraphed like a clay pigeon. Mchunu is leaning over and working right upper-hooks on the ribs of Wilson while avoiding his slow power leads, then straightening up his stance as he gets on the move again landing his right jab and hook on the backfoot.

Round 6

Mchunu is leaning back with his upper body twisted away, right arm curled around his midsection, dodging Wilson's outside punches with his quick elasticity and use of the shoulder roll. Quick right hooks on the body by Mchunu when Wilson closes the distance prevent any inside work by the challenger as he winces and ties up. Wilson keeps pursuing Mchunu and eating hard right jabs flashing home before he can block them. Rights chucked in by Wilson with bad intentions fall short or just graze Mchunu's chest.

Round 7

Mchunu is backed into the ropes as Wilson begins to slam underhanded and wide golf-slice rights into the body. Mchunu holds and then bounces away on the break. Flush counter right jabs and hooks by Mchunu as Wilson keeps the pressure on, paying the price. Mchunu is artfully sliding away from Wilson, making him lunge and miss and touching him with the occasional jab or lead left/right hook combo on the jaw. Wilson holds, tired from plodding around the ring after Mchunu. Leaping right hook by Mchunu, darting back nearly into a corner but with the bell sparing him the need to find an exit.
