Apart from York Hall what are you favourite and worse venues doing the rounds at the moment, Motor point Sheffield MEN Manchester or whatever it's calling itself Hull Ice Arena Wembley Arena Leeds arena Liverpool Echo Excel London Doncaster Dome Or any that I missed out Best for me is Sheffield motor point nice sized venue which can create a great atmosphere with the right fights. Worst has to be Liverpool Echo purely because there seems to be crowd trouble at every big fight
I doubt many would argue against the atmosphere and history of York Hall Billy, special place for all true boxing fans
I know it's only a small hall & there is only one fella who makes the place rock - but seriously when Shayne Singleton fights at Colne it is something else, the set up makes the place intimidating. Nationally best - Manchester for Froch - Groves 1 was amazing Nationally worst - Echo - if it's a FW show then they sell about half the seats, I was sat in a 'paddock' with 5 pals, 50 seats empty around us. Wembley for Froch - Groves 2 wasn't the best either, just the logistics - took us 1hr 10 min to get off the Wembley way! people were urinating on each other, climbing spiked fences, mental! Olympia & Kelvin hall worth a shout too!
For me MEN was electric for Groves VS Froch. Wolverhampton Civic was also good for Frankie. Worst would be Liverpool Echo as stated above when I went March fights kicking off right left and centre. Nottingham Arena used to be up there as the worst atmosphere
For atmosphere M.E.N is the best iv been to esp when hatton boxed. But most enjoyable was at craven park hull didnt feel restricted to your seat for 5 hours had a bit of a festival feel to it should have more like that
I agree, loved the "feel" of the craven park show. Like you say it was very much a festival feel with little restriction although I think that annoyed those who paid for ringside because you could literally walk past security and it became almost a standing terrace. I watched the Tommy and Luke fight stood up 6 rows back after only buying a £40 ticket! The location is dire though for those travelling to hull and staying in hotels etc
Iv been a few times mostly half empty no atmosphere, but I was there for froch kessler 2 which was unreal especially froch ring entrance think it was welcome to the jungle was great night that also surrounded by nice bars restaurant ect
Was also at the excel for the campbell nevin fight campbell was the only gb fighter on that day so most crowd was just waiting for his fight near enough 50/50 split in crowd gb n irish some great banter in the bars before and after too a day il never forget that one
Fights in the crowd were better than those in the ring that night! Echo arena is good for the view, even the higher seats give you a decent view, shame about the coked/roided up bellends there
