In terms of pure skill and technique, boxing didn't evolve, there is not much to evolve after a certain point in a sport as old as boxing.
On average (of course there are exceptions) Boxers look faster, sharper and stronger, today.

If boxers are continuously getting better then George Foreman wouldnt regain the championship in 1994 after losing it in 1974

and Hopkins wouldnt be in position in November to be the best light heavyweight after almost 30 years of boxing

    That is the bottom line.

You can go further back than the 20's to find much better technique than today's fighters. Even the shitty jumpy film cant hide the outstanding ability and technique of Joe Gans. He was held in such high regard by his fellow pro's of his day because he was so good. He was clever, calculated, crafty, skilled and brutal.
The most fitting testament to Gans greatness as a fighter is the esteem in which he was held by other all time greats. Benny Leonard idolised him. Sam Langford deemed him the greatest boxer of all time. Bob Fitzsimmons called Gans the cleverest fighter he'd ever seen.

Start actually watching fights and stop trolling with this pathetic agenda you seem to have going.

The objective observer, likely sees the question as a somewhat complex one.

You have a lot of pieces of information, often pointing in different directions, and you have to make sense of them.

If you are confident about this issue, you either haven’t thought about it enough, or are not objective.

gans has like 3 available videos that are very shaky and either sped up or slowed down. the only thing that helps anyone's case about him is either news articles or journals that were made by some dead boxing expert that no one has ever heard of. im not taking away anything from those pioneers but most fighters or probably all fighters from that era look terrible on film. throwing looping punches, slow footwork, flatfooted, throwing punches when they're out of range(jack dempsey) etc. how does nobody sense a hypocrisy here?

Until the 1950's it was also usual that the best never faced off, but because one of them was black. But those were obviously "the golden years". It's a bit ironic to call oneself the "Boilermaker" and be upset that the two outstanding fighters in a division never meet. With the Klits it's anyhow not because of blatant racism. (Cue: Some revisionist crap about Jeffries, when he was champ, never ducked Johnson).

Gans clearly looks great on film. Get your eyes tested son. Benny Leonard idolised him ffs. There is no greater tribute to a mans ability than that. Please dont say Benny was flat footed and threw looping hooks. Benny was a great mover and a highly intelligant boxer. I suppose you think modern guys like Alvarez are better technically than Gans and Leonard.
Your agenda against old timers is being used to back up your hero Mayweathers resume. You can keep on thinking guys like Maidana are better than Armstrong. Your just making a fool of yourself.

i didn't say anything negative about either leonard or gans. i just said they don't look better than mayweather on film and i want someone to tell me that isn't true. in terms of skill i can't point out a skillgap in between eras besides the 80s which was probably the best era (hagler, camacho, duran, leonard, hearns, benitez, etc.) who the hell is beating them? but compare guys like dempsey and tyson, do u really think tunney would have been able to keep tyson off of him like he did dempsey? and i read that tyson emulated dempsey.
