Jesus Christ. Who cares? Ring ranked him among the top middleweights in the world in 1941. It happened. Get the f*ck over it already. It happened 73 years ago. Did he take food out of your mouth? Let it go. And you're seriously quoting "BOXREC?" That's what this has come to? You need psychiatric help.
This is true its where they are career form wise, and it just cant be got around . If you are beaten early in your career but put together a good sequence of wins over DECENT opposition then you can be said to have expunged those early setbacks with consistancy and improvement but if you are getting beaten and sometimes stopped by nobodies with only a couple of fights on their record when you are into your 30th and later fights then there is no way you are top level. The fighter in question here was beaten by men with losing records, and beaten convincingly by novices who stopped him in 1 round when he was an experienced fighter.
Losing to a world champion or a top 10 contender doesn't necessarily mean you're world champion/top 10 material. It's often a demonstration of the fact that they are and you aren't.
You care and very badly obviously. Of your last 25 posts ,24 have been about Bert Gilroy I'd say you care desperately!:good I'm just exposing bull****.
They also ranked him among a bunch of stiffs, novices, faded former top fighters, and nobodys. Thats the problem with that particular rating that you read so much into: There is a huge HUGE gap in the ability of those 20 or so fighters. This gives a ton of wiggle room when trying to assess exactly how highly he was thought of. And again, these rankings were being compiled by people who never saw Gilroy fight. EVER. Not once. And probably didnt see most of the other fighters in that particular "group." Maybe didnt even have a good handle on their overall records. So, I say again, if you really think its special that Bert Gilroy was ranked as equal to some of those guys then good luck getting across the point that he was a world class fighter. And BTW neither you, nor Jim (if you are even two seperate people) ever answered me whether or not Gilroy was any better than guys like Henry Chmielweski or Raul Carrabentas, or Al Wardlow, or Leon Zorrita. Because I think most would agree that if you class Gilroy with those guys, which you seem dogmatically intent on doing, then he wasnt world class.
And you need psychiatric help, too. We used to trade boxing tapes in the 90s. Dip****. I could probably drive to your house in about 10 minutes. I'm not Jim. He was ranked. You weren't alive then. The people who saw him ranked him.
Get over what? He wasn't even ranked in the top 5 in his own country read Senya's post. 24 out of your last 25 posts all about Gilroy .Get over it!
They are? Is this a Gilroy thread? Because this is the only thread I've been posting in for the past four days. If that's what you meant for this to be, label it as such. Because I would've avoided it. Like I'm going to do now. You guys are obsessed.
Oh, no how will I ever deal with not being able to converse with you? You're such a fountain of knowledge!
McVey you don't know how wrong you are my friend!!! Boxrec NOT the Complete records for every fighter, Not ANYWHERE Near for MOST of the whole data base. Novices, you will be shocked old son. Champions, Contenders & TOP Noted fighters (many of which fought dozens & hundreds of fights), in that early career your trying to pass over as insignificant, which incidently started as a 15 year old boy at Featherweight/Lightweight. and WHY are you 'stopping' at that early first 4 years and not starting at mid 1937 when the lad came into it and then went 6 years without a loss and be was a Champion, World Classed and Rated No.1 middleweight in the UK and a strong favourite to BEAT Jock McAvoy from 1939 on ward to 1945. was ROBBED 5 times in that same period and dropped from Contention and Passed Over TWICE in that time frame. also fought the TOP 3 HWS in the country at that time this 5'9" middleweight FORCED to go after the Heavier divisions to seek fights, paydays and of course enhance his Title rights. Still being report as title challenger as late as 1946 and from 1945-48 was Mills' No.1 Contender at L-HW... you never mention these facts do you... and as Doublechin has shown the World Classifications for 1941, he was also there from 1938 - 49 and whole classifications ahead of his fellow British contenders for 3 of 6 years, with 3 being shared by 4 other Brit fighters. you don't mention these things, NO. what about the Interview from former L-HW Contender Jock Taylor just a few years ago on YouTube that stated Bert Gilroy, the Scottish champion was No.1, he Was ALWAYS No.1, but I don't remember seeing him fight!" what about his fellow fighters McAvoy, Mills & Wood**** to name a few, Greats Jimmy Wilde & Elky Clark appraisal & assessment of him. Not important eh? what about TOP Reporters and their many reports on the same matters, Hurst, Turner, Dalby, Butler, Wellwood and others? what about the Legendary American Charley Roses' attempt to get him to America on the Conn v Louis II card at the Gardens... Not important eh. what about 88 WINS against 26 losses and 8 draws of 122 Ring Battles, you know, Fights and a few more as yet uncovered... and we've already spoke about WHO & What MOST of these fighters were home & abroad. stop being a DEMENTED IMP, citing Inaccurate INCOMPLETE Bull**** when it is so plain to see you IGNORE as if it never happed ALL the Actual RECORDED FACTS, STATEMENTS, RECORDS, RATINGS and EVALUATIONS. I wish I knew what was up your ass, but whatever it is it isn't very healthy and in fact is quite alarming!!!
I disagree. A fighter, no matter how far gone is still a world class fighter. The significance is diminished of course but it is still a noteworthy victory. Berbick beat a post parkinsons Ali and it's one of his best victories. Walters at FW smashed a shot Darchinyan, again it's not as significant as when Nonito sparked him but it is noteworthy. McLarnin beat that flyweight guy, was it Villa? Well pre prime but still a world class victory non the less. I could go on and on but I feel my point is proven.
