Does Floyd "play" off of the cherry picking theory?

    This is just a theory.

It's strange, how in October of 2013, Khan was mentioned as a possible opponent. When Mayweather mentioned Khan, people freaked out. "Khan is a cherry pick", "Khan hasn't done anything", "Floyd's just looking for a KO", etc etc. In 2013, Khan was a terrible opponent and people were very vocal about it.

Fast-forward to 2014 and it seems people's opinions have shifted. "Floyd's ducking Khan", "he's afraid of speed", "Khan can beat him." Etc. Etc. Strange isn't it? Or is it all part of the plan?

We all know Floyd is the "puppet master", or "master of deception", he's a damn good salesman. People thought he'd duck Mosley, thought he'd duck Cotto, I've even heard Ortiz at some point, they said he'd duck a rematch with Maidana (and called it a cherry pick gone wrong at the same time ), they said he'd duck Canelo. The list goes on. But after the fight, it's always the same tune coming from the fans.

Now, maybe he did duck or didn't, that's not the point of this thread. The point is, does he "play" off of the idea that he's ducking? Think about it: You want to see him lose so you're scrambling for the next guy to beat him. He mentions Khan, "Khan's garbage" you say. Then he flat out refuses Khan, or "ducks" him. Then you're thinking "Why did he duck Khan? Khan brings speed, he's afraid of speed." Now you're thinking Khan is a dangerous opponent, because Floyd ducked him, obviously, right?

He did the same with Canelo. Refused to sign to fight him and people thought it was because he was scared. Remember how Canelo wanted a contract prior to their Trout and Guerrero fights? And remember when Mayweather did sign, people said "Showtime forced him to do it!"

If you think Floyd ducked, you think he's scared. If you think he's scared, you think he'll lose. If you think he'll lose, you want to see it. Does Floyd create the illusion that he's ducking or is afraid of someone? Only to use that illusion to build interest and increase PPV?

IMO, I don't think he always did, but I believe he has for the past 5 years.

in 2013 though khan was off the back of 2 defeats, and a poorish display against Diaz, there were also a lot of other names in the mix to fight him,

As of now, FMJ has beaten Maidana twice, Garcia, alexander + Bradley have all gone backwards. Who else is there to fight at 147? (other than PAC - different subject) Khan appears to be in pole position more by default then anything else

Move forward 3 months, Thurman, khan, brook, Garcia maybe will all be fighting, and could be one win/loss from changing the picture around. Don't think anyone had Maidana as a serious opponent for FMJ before he beat Broner.

Think Mayweather picks who is "hot" at the time, as that's what gets the most sales and makes him the most money. Don't think theres any ducking or cherry picking involved.

Not really a cherry pick seeing how Maidana gave him fits in both fights.

He cherrypicks on slow plodding fighters.

When someone mentions someone with speed and footwork he says they still have problems with other fighters they lost to . Example "Khan still has Garcia and Peterson problems" or "Pacquiao still has Marquez and Bradley problems" when it comes to slow plodding fighters like Maidana he doesnt say that Maidana still has Khan and Alexander problems, its cherrypicking 101, dude should write a book about it.

Yes, he does. But, when demand hits its peak, he makes the fight (or at least tries to make the fight). He's made very smart and calculated moves since he came out of retirement.

He's let Khan simmer for awhile, probably waiting for Khan to look really spectacular, and for the public demand to "force him" to take the fight. And he will likely school Khan.

The problem is Khan is playing it VERY safe waiting to be picked, instead of earning his shot. It's Khan's sense of entitlement that has delayed that fight. Now, if he makes good on this Guerrero fight, and looks dominant, he will qualify as the next "Mayweather slayer", and will get the fight. But, if Guerrero checks that chin, he better hope he can cash out with a Brook fight.

Put it this way, Floyd wouldn't be able to fight Algeri.
The blow back would be that bad that he'd have to choose someone else.
Mayweather the only fighter out there not able to cherry pick.
When JMM has to be your tune up, that just goes to show the standards the fans set for Floyd Mayweather.
Floyd doesn't cherry pick, there are just little challenges out there for him.
The only fight I'd like to see Mayweather in is the Golovkin fight, even though Floyd is too small for 160, that would make it even more interesting.

Whoever he fights is and will be considered a cherry pick. Surely ******s will forget this and deny it, but even when Pacquiao-Mayweather was rumored to be "On" back in 2010 certain losers were spamming the place with "Another smaller opponent like Marquez!, cherry picking continues!!, he is scared and stuttering at the sight of Mosley!". Maidana clearly gave Mayweather hell in both fights yet he's also somehow a cherry.

agree with this, Khan needs to fight Guerrero and look good, he can chat **** for the next 5 months or so about how he beat maidaina Judah and Guerreo easier than FMJ and get people taking about the fight.

maybe he just straight out looks for the easiest route and you are working too hard to try and find an explanation that will acquit him.
