Calzage-Hopkins-opinion

I often read opinions of the fight and I am always surprised to hear people say they thought B-Hop won. I watched the fight several times and have Calzage comfortably ahead. I think the evidence of Hopkins slowing down was pretending to be hit low and looking for rest and hoping for a cheap call for a DQ or point reduction.

thoughts on that fight and who do you think won -scorecard

 

at 43, Hopkins was bound to lose against someone close to fully fit who was a decent boxer too.

Yes Hopkins was peachily hittin joe at will early on, but once the lungs went he was unable to stop joe flapping inaccurately at him.

 

Hopkins made me a big fan over the years and I was rooting for him but I was really disappointed in him this fight. He cried and whined a bunch when it was obvious that he was buying time because he was gassing. He looked like crap I thought. The fight was winnable, Calzaghe didnt look great either but he was busier and made Hopkins look old. There was no doubt in my mind that Hopkins lost that fight and that coming from a big Hopkins supporter.

 

I watched the fight and gave it to Joe as well. Hopkins landed the more effective punches which is why the people who gave him the nod did so, but Calzaghe literally threw AND landed double the punches. You can't give a man the decision who was that badly outgunned and outworked.

 

Nope Bhop landed better shots and calzaghe fought amateur style. Calzaghe's dad told him he needed a KO to win before the last rd or it was over.

 

Calzaghe won the fight 7-5 or 8-4. Hopkins couldn't keep the pace and looked for a way out. Bernard's antics looked very bad and he totally lost the benefit of the doubt in the judges eyes after the low blow antics that if a round was debatable he would get the nod. It wasn't Calzaghe's best performance either but he took the activity to a level Hopkins couldn't follow.

 

I had Calzaghe winning 116-111. Joe was just a better fighter than Hopkins. Bernard couldn't deal with his tremendous workrate and was forced to fight dirty and that didn't even work. He won even though he was clearly past it, Bernard was closer to his prime than Calzaghe was to his.

 

Hopkins was far more accurate landing cleaner punches. Calzaghe threw loads more but missed much of his work. A good case for Hopkins clearly winning the first 4.

If you had Calzaghe winning it's because you value quantity over quality.

Hopkins did cheat but that isn't part of the scoring criteria.

 

I had joe clear winner first time out.

Now I concede it could have gone either way.

 

He couldn't have won it 7-5

 

Joe adjusted well straightening his punches and throwing counters of his own. I think he deserves credit for the performance however it's scored.

 

I had it clearly for Calzaghe, for whatever that is worth.

 

Guys with speed and punch volume always edged Hopkins on the scorecards, and Calzaghe was the same. B-Hop's style was designed for the era of 15 and 20-round fights.

 

Why not? 115-113 minus a point for knockdown in first round is 114-113 which is what I believe I scored it.
