No. He should have given Vitali a rematch just like Joe Louis gave Jersey Joe a rematch after their first controversial fight. He already somewhat tarnished his legacy post Tyson by first ducking the tough and tricky southpaw Chris Byrd who could have presented problems for him. However the bad one was where after he benefited from the biggest fluke of his career, he shamelessly held the title hostage for nearly a year all the while making one ridiculous excuse after another as why he wouldn't rematch Vitali. He basically ended his career in disgrace, abruptly retiring before the WBC stripped him of his title for not fighting Vitali. If he had continued on and rematched Vitali I believe (I'm quite sure Lewis did as well) that Vitali would have beaten him.
Yeah absolutely. He fought till he achieved what he wanted in his career. Then he had the Vitali fight and saw that he didn't have it anymore/didn't have the drive to train hard/was on the decline so he retired. One of the few to hang em up at the right time imo.
I suppose he didn't want the rematch but that doesn't change the fact that he won the first fight fair and square and that a prime Lewis wrecks Vitali. He simply knew he didn't have it anymore and didn't like his chances against Vitali in a rematch so he retired. At least thats how I saw it.
LL would not take the time to **** on any of you weirdos who fellate him over the Internet. He might actually be a more sympathetic fighure if he was not such an insecure, latent homo, elitist, pseudo intellectual who did most of his fighting in court rooms over the years. There is a reason he never accepted that Chess challenge form either Klitschko brother. He would have been made to look foolish and his phony act would have been exposed.
I'm not even a big LL fan and he totally comes off as a dick head elitist but I say he'd smash either brother in his prime. At chess that is just kidding
Lewis trained for 12 rounds, to defend his title against Kirk Johnson.... Vitali was a substitute who took the fight on only a few weeks notice, how was he more prepared than Lewis? That there Klitschko detractor logic.... Vitali was training for a bum, not Lewis... Despite that he still beat the crap out of him, and outpointed him over 6 rounds.
He didn't train for squat, he was underprepared as seen in his 2003 fight. Very fat, very underwhelming. Fact is: It was close to a year since he last fought Tyson. He even stated himself that he was not 100% or anywhere near it. :smooch On the other hand, Vitali was training for Boswell but you left that out of course. He paid Kirky off, he knew he was going to get the Lewis fight the entire time. He was 100% ready for that Lewis confrontation and he got holes punched in his face. :deal
O come on. Beat the crap out of him? What a joke. Sure he was getting the better of the action but I think you're looking back on that fight with extremely rose tinted glasses. Vitali lost legitimately.
