Yes but this is ESB, we should not let facts get in the way of a meaningless rant. If Mayweather wants to shoot for an undefeated record then he should shoot for Julio Cesar Chavez's winning streak, which must be one of the best in the modern era. Good luck with that.
A SD over a 45+ year old? That amazing win. I guess Taylor and Dawson should rank higher, as they had an even easier time with Hopkins.
Calzaghe did not have a clearer victory than Taylor FFS, he got a SD, in which some people felt Hopkins won. Taylor beat him much more convincgly Secondly, a legacy is not based on one win (especially one that is based on an SD), its based your whole body of work. And i believe Floyds overall body of work is better than Calzaghes.
Mayweather is not a heavyweight, so it is not possible for him to break Marciano's heavyweight record of 49-0. Staying undefeated at heavyweight (where almost every fighter has a LEGITIMATE ability to knock the other man out) is light years different than at the lower weights. And, at the lower weights, MANY fighters have compiled much longer undefeated streaks (Robinson, Chavez, Wilde, Lopez, etc.) and did so against VASTLY superior opposition. This so called streak is simply a marketing ploy to fool ignorant fans into thinking that Floyd is more special than he actually is. I admit Floyd is a great fighter. But, one who falls short of ATG status.
Im not going to dispute that, maybe they are. Calzaghe - SD Hopkins Floyd - SD ODLH Calzaghe - Kessler Floyd - Canelo Calzaghe - Lacy Floyd - Gatti Calzaghe - RJJ Floyd - Mosely I tried to pair them up as best i could. Floyd also has guys like Cotto, Hatton, Marquez, Maidana as well. And i do believe Ortiz and Guererro were above the likes of Peter Mandfredo.
The record he would break is to retire undefeated and unblemished at 50-0 with no losses and no draws. Ricardo Lopez was 50-0 but had one draw. Even if he does it, it would have a huge asterisk next to it because on top of ducking Margarito, Tszyu, and Paul Williams, he ducked the SMALLER Pacquiao. Whenever people bring up mythical matchups involving Floyd and greats from the past like Leonard, Duran, and Hearns I tell them, "c'mon bro, he ducked Margarito, Paul Williams and Pacquiao ---he's gonna fight Leonard, Duran and Hearns! **** outa here!" He wouldn't fight those dudes in a video game. In the 80's, Mayweather stays at 135 and let's all those dudes move up.
My bad, 51 wins and 0 losses but 1 draw so there was a blemish. No fighter has RETIRED 50+ and 0 with 0 draws.
there's no true criteria on how to rank a fighter on ATG lists, that's why they're so inconsistent. some lists have harry greb as #1, others have langford and others have robinson. i made a thread about this bullsh*t
