If he KOs Cloud, that would be something.

Tavoris has never even been knocked down.

Why has the usual anti Russo/Soviet/Eastern Euro crowd not come to support their boy Cloud in this one?

I think they treat Cloud as a lost cause after 3 losses in a row.

I'm not anti Russo/Soviet/Eastern Euro. Hell, I'm rooting for Beterbiev.

Cloud is a second rate fighter at this point. If Beterbiev is a legitimate prospect he should win easy.

I'm sure the usual bigots will be bashing and discrediting Beterbiev if he beats Cloud and enters the Ring and Transnational top 10 at light heavyweight.

That Russo/Soviet/Eastern Euro clade of fighters seems to consistantly get the most crap on here. They must be doing something right because they seem to get the most success in relation to the relatively scarce numbers of actual pro fighters that represent many of these countries.

Be an iconoclast and threaten the status quo then be prepared for the inevitable shitstorm that will come your way.

Yes, sadly that's the way is is. Any successful East European boxer will get bashed by the bigots.

I'm expecting Beterbiev to win but I doubt it'll be easy for a coupla reasons:

Firstly the sheer magnitude of the step-up may leave Tavoris oportunities to capitalise on Arturs pro inexperience. 7 title fights is still a wealth of experience to draw on, even if he lost the last 3.

Tavoris has only been beaten by legitimate titlist Campillo, legend Hopkins and Lineal champ Stevenson. I think you're underating him slightly if you think he's not still a major challenge for all but the division's best.

Secondly, the styles match-up - Artur isn't a smart boxer / spoiler like Hopkins or Campillo. He's likely to toe to toe with Tavoris who's both durable and can bang a bit himself - it could well be something of a slugfest, though I can see Beterbiev breaking down Cloud eventually for a mid-late stoppage.

Good post. Two things I'm loooking at are Clouds falloff in his last two fights, and the fact he hasn't fought in a year. He just doesn't look like the same fighter he did a few years ago. Im not saying it wont still be a good win.
