The experts were saying that long time ago, when Cloud was fighting Woods and Glen Johnson. As we see now, Cloud and Lacy have so much in common.

Don't think thats what the poster was getting at. Sheesh why is always about race with some of you.

I think he was saying that Cloud just never lived up to hype

    He didn't.

I wonder how to look at this guy now?
He got outboxed by Campillo, who in turn got knocked over easily by Kovalev and later Fonfara.
He got outboxed by a 376 year old Bernard Hopkins.
He got outboxed and stopped by some Haitian pimp.
And now he got demolished by a Russian monster with only 5 fights under his belt.
    :think

    Just like Lacy.

Barely got a decision vs Sheika.
    Destroyed by Calzaghe.
    Schooled by Taylor.
Schooled by 95 y.o. Roy Jones jr.
Destroyed in 2 by some Cuban prospect.

I can see what is trying to be said, though feel they are a bit different.
I dont think Cloud was expected to be a major factor, where as Lacy was expected to beat a long reigning champ with a top resume.
I do see some differences though

Lacy was arguably ruined by one fight, but before that had looked impressive for the most part and damaged his shoulder in his fight after. Even after that bad loss, he beat a world class opponent who had beaten a future world champ.
After the shoulder damage, Lacy was then even further removed from what he had been and without his left hook.

With Cloud, he had already been in tight decision fights where some felt he could have been fortunate.
When he lost to Hopkins he wasnt totally smashed to pieces but I feel a loss often seems to lead to a downfall in form, and after the loss to Hopkins he has now been on a way down with losses to Stevenson and a 5 fight pro.

I think a big difference is that for one it seems almost psychological at first after being exposed, whilst the other was ruined by a brutal beating when being exposed. Either way they have both played their parts in boxing and done more than most others. Wish them well with their futures

 ****, and they both have similar highlights. Lacy knocked down Taylor and Cloud put Campillos ass on the canvas twice.

Their careers are starting to look almost identical.

Hyped up, KO "beast", pick up a title, get exposed, then look absolutely awful.

Its like a mirror image, except about 10 years apart.

    Just saw this thread now.

I just made a thread about it myself...oops!

  11. Beterbiev is a beast and I love that he’s going all in early. Seeing a fighter win a title before fight 10 might be my favorite thing in boxing.

I think Cloud has joined Jeff Lacy in the overrated power punching monster who wins a title but isn’t even good, more like mediocre. Lacy is the closest example I can think of when it comes to losing your title and immediately falling to gatekeeper status. It’s crazy how far Cloud has fallen in such a short time.

This pretty much says it all. Lacy was much more highly regarded coming up, and was expected to be a much more significant player in the sport than he ultimately became. Kind of like Jermain Taylor.

Cloud was less hyped, as he didn't have the Olympic pedigree. People tend to underestimate the degree to which Olympic fighters, even those who do not win gold, are hyped in the pros. Lacy was much more hyped than Cloud was.

You do a disservice to Cloud by saying he is Lacy reincarnate. Cloud has lost to top level opposition only. I would say Cloud is probably a better puncher than Lacy. He just has T Rex arms. Lets not forget he was off for a year and probably not even training properly. Not to mention, it looked like he either packed it in, or was just paid to come in and make the guy look good, similar to Balderthal being KO'd by Canelo, with Winning gloves on. Not taking anything away from Beterbiev. I like guys who get knocked down multiple times to at least be wobbly when they get up. Not looking like they found the canvas on their own accord.
