Cloud was a good fighter but you saw glimpses of his limitations when he fought Mack..... and Johnson that gave him a much closer fight than the scores indicated. The Campillo fight showed you why for a long time, Don King wasn't confident of trying to unify the titles. Anyways, Cloud is nevertheless a good fighter and Beterbiev got a top notch ''W'' considering it's so early in his career.
I wonder if The Ring and Transnational rankings will have Beterbiev in their top ten at light heavyweight? Cloud is Ring #7 and Transnational #8 at 175. Probably Cloud will exit the rankings, but will Beterbiev replace him?
Yes. Maybe it would be debateable if he'd won a close decision etc but if you destroy a top 10 ranked fighter, you have to enter the rankings.
Artur Beterbiev erased any doubts that hovered above his head on Saturday at the Bell Centre in the final of "Red Dawn" gala. Beterbiev (6-0, 6 KOs) was expeditious in winning by knockout in the second round against Tavoris Cloud (24-3, 20 KOs). An impressive performance. Protege of Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM) sent his opponent to the canvas three times in the first period, including one at the last second. We can say that Cloud was saved by the bell. Like a Russian tank assault, the colt Marc Ramsay then tackled his opponent from the first moments of the second round and he managed to finish the job. For its part, Cloud was never in the game. After being dominated by Adonis Stevenson in his last visit to Montreal soil, the American suffered a real beating against Beterbiev. "Cloud was a test for me and I think I passed with flying colors, said the winner. I made my statement with my fists. " "Even in my wildest dreams I did not think it would be so fast, said Ramsay. I think it was a surprise for Cloud more than the fact that he underestimated Artur. He had been groomed for 12 rounds and we thought we would go to the limit due to the qualities of his rival. " Also, he had an anecdote about his boxer. "When I walked into the locker room, I was excited and I said," you have done an excellent fight! "He replied to me that he had a normal duel."
54 posters voted for Beterbiev via KO. It was 51 this morning. lol I took a screen shot of all the posters names who voted in the poll because I noticed the number of those who voted for him by KO had risen after the fight too. Shall we play let's find out who those three naughty little boys are? lol
for some reason after the win Boxrec have him only at 17th surely Cloud was in the top 10? I bet ring mag don't put him in
It was very impressive win for Beterbiev. I am looking forward to watching his next fight. HBO guys should sign him right away.
The Boxrec points system doesn't necessarily work that way, but anyway Cloud had 284pts per Boxrec prior to fighting Beterbiev, which would have put him at #12 behind Fonfara. The Boxrec system, whilst rewarding more for KOs than UDs and for UDs than SDs also rewards less for inactive opponents and those with recent losing records such as Cloud. I tend to go mainly off the TBRB who had Cloud at #8 but even there I can see the rationale in not wanting to rate a fighter too highly off just one major fight, no matter how impressive the victory.
Boxrec's nothing to be taken seriously for ratings anyway. It's a guide in a sense, but at times a cloudy one.
Couldn't agree more. It's a useful resource and not bad for giving you a rough idea about the records and standing of fighters you may not be so familiar with, but as a ratings system it's limited at best. Like any points based system it ends up replacing the subjective with the arbitrary.
Russian light heavyweight prospect Artur Beterbiev called Saturdays second-round stoppage of ex-IBF titleholder Tavoris Cloud a walk in the park. Beterbiev, 29, improved to 6-0 with as many knockouts, representing the third consecutive loss for Cloud (24-3, 19 KOs). The triumph at Bell Centre in Montreal was just the second over a fighter with a winning record for Beterbiev, who has yet to go beyond four rounds. On Sunday, Beterbiev shared his thoughts on the fight with. What is your overall assessment of the victory? Im very happy about my performance. It was as easy as a walk in the park but I could have done a little better and theres always room for improvement. How much of the result of this fight was a result of your talent and how much was it Clouds deterioration as a fighter? I believe that the preparation of Tavoris Cloud was great but once you miss a punch and you get hit with a solid punch, there is nothing you can do. But there is also the mental preparation. You have to be mentally prepared and I think that even though I got to him, physically, I got to him mentally too. Its always a test of wills and whoever gets the upper hand first gets the priority in the ring. I think it comes down to intimidation. Once I was able to do that, I knew that I was going to win. Then, it becomes physical. It was very important for me to win the fight mentally first and then to show with my punches that Im there to put him down. As far as his deterioration, I cant comment on that. Thats up to the public to judge. Im only responsible for myself. At what point did you have that mental advantage and ultimately complete control in the fight? When Tavoris Cloud fell the second time, I had a suspicion that maybe he was getting weaker. Now the first time that he went down, I thought maybe that it might have been he was trying to take a break. But the second time, I was sure that the victory was very close and that the end was very close. Why were you so successful landing the left hook? Cloud was placed in a position that made it comfortable for me to land the left hook. It was like he was asking for it. He was wide open on that side for the left hook. Is your intention to continue taking on other top contenders or former titleholders in your next few fights? Of course, I would want to fight former champions of the world and champions of the world. At this point, we dont want to take anything less. How far away do you believe you are from a title shot? Only God knows but I would love to have maybe just one or two fights before I take on a championship fight. But even if the championship fight was tomorrow, I would be ready to take it. What statement do you think you sent to the critics of your competition level as well as to the rest of the division? It was a very big test for me and a lot of people, before the fight, they were criticizing. They were trying to put the blame on me that I was fighting only easy opponents. Now, I think that Ive passed a big test. I hope that people enjoyed the show. Now Im looking forward to facing better opponents they know the message. Everyone knows the message that I sent. There is no need to say anything more about that.
