Showtime version of Benn-Wharton

Benn made Wharton fight very cautious for the first four rounds. Wharton started to come on in the 5th, but he just couldn't handle Benn's movements. Credit to Wharton though he took some massive right hands and uppercuts. Good fight, excellent finish.

 

Just read whartons autobiography very unlucky in his career benn n Eubank fought out of there skin against him he brought the best out of them.
Time he fought Reid he was past it I think the way he use to cut weight is scary he's lucky to still have his health. A week before fights he was 13stone with no fat to lose!!!

The biggest injustice was how he stopped the Italian guy in a euro title who in his next fight went on to fight and win the WBC world title while Wharton remained at euro level. Really poorly managed and promoted.

 

Wharton was a very good fighter, unlucky to exist in the greatest era of British SMWs

 

I think Wharton would go a bit further in this current era

 

He didnt.
He did put on great shows and pushed both

 

No question he'd of beat Reid pre-Eubank. The beating Eubank gave him had you watching through your fingers.

 

Eubank was on top form that night and his jab was superb. A lot of people expected Eubank to fade late on in the Wharton fight as he had a lot of long fights that year and some people thought they were going to take there toll, but Eubank was in control throughout. Wharton was very tough, but his style suited Eubank as you know Chris loved fighters who would come at him and make the first move, so he could counter them.
I think Wharton pre Eubank would have beat Reid also, but Wharton pre-Eubank did struggle with guys who he should have looked good against in Lou Gent and Fidel Castro Smith.

 

I remember Lou Gent getting a shot at Benn on the strength of his draw with WBC #1 Wharton.

I would fancy Wharton pre-Eubank to beat Reid, but Reid would still be hard work and the fight would have been another tear up. I just feel Wharton would be too strong for him though and Reid would probably slow down towards the end then Wharton would drive in his big left hooks.

 

Wharton coming up was more exciting than even Benn. He was punching guys out of the ring all the time.

 

Mickey Duff was telling everybody and anybody Wharton would KO Benn. In fairness Nigel Benn was on another level.

 

Wharton pretty good fighter be interesting if we could get him in that boxing time machine and put in against AA
