Of course you say that now. I can remember where there weren't many expecting him to blast him out that early and completely dominate him. Sure, people thought Golovkin would win, but there were many saying Macklin would at least be something better than what he showed. Don't be one of these bull**** hindsight guys.
I'm not. I never for one second believed that Macklin had a chance, and neither did GGG's management.
There were still a lot of people that thought Macklin was going to be a tough test. Whether or not you felt that was justified isn't what I was getting it. I predicted a body shot stoppage in 5-7 because I also thought Golovkin would win, but not as easily as he did. I thought there would be some exciting moments but that obviously wasn't the case.
He's a decent fighter. Falls short against the elite, but anyone else can give a good account of himself. Definitely not a pushover.
People have to take into account Macklins CHRONIC INACTIVITy over the las 5years! FIVE YEARS. You cannot stay sharp at anything if you only do it once or twice a year for 5 years running. Now if he gets active , has 3-4 fights in quick succession, and cannot perform better than he did against Russia and yebes THEN it may be fair to say he is finished.
Don't confuse us Brits with Irish posters. They would be the one who think Magee was the greatest ever.
I think he may just be past it. Hes received a ,lot of punishment in his career, going all the way back to the Jamie Moore fight.
Christ, everyone is either a bum or owns a glass chin according to these forums.. Macklin WAS top 10 ranked. He beat Sturm, that isn't up for debate. He isn't/wasn't an elite but he was a decent fighter. Those losses have pushed him right down the rankings now, but let's not make out he'sbeen a bum his whole career. His notable recent losses are to Martinez and Golovkin - is that really so embarrassing?
He's a very good fighter who lost out to the elite, no shame in that. Certainly not a bum. He'd make any internet posters in his weight class look like bums though if they ever had the balls to box against him (as Wilder did to Charlie Zelenoff)
