Prime (Tokyo) Douglas vs. 1990 Foreman

Peak, motivated Buster Douglas vs 2nd Career Prime Foreman. I think this would have been a very close, interesting fight. Who takes it?

 

I actually like this matchup and wondered how it would pan out at the time Buster upset Tyson. Foreman had just KO'd Cooney a month earlier, but Gerry started off in the first round landing is left jab with regularity before getting stopped in the second. This left me skeptical of George's chances of overcoming Douglas's boxing ability. I can see Douglas taking a decision assuming he was in shape and didn't crumble later, but that's a very big "IF".

 

Foreman KO 2. He finishes him a round earlier than Holyfield did. "Tokyo Douglas" is a myth.

 

Foreman would hit him so hard the Japs would think it's WW2 all over again.

 

I really think that there is no comparison of Tokyo Douglas to lazy Douglas. Tokyo Douglas would have carved up Holyfield like a Christmas ham.

Montreal Duran would win, or Toledo Dempsey, I wouldn't doubt Kingston Foreman though.

Buster of Tokyo vintage would have done a number on George, no doubt in my mind about it. But Buster of Tokyo vintage was one fight, so...

Interestingly, Douglas wanted a Foreman fight. I remember distinctly reading in Boxing Illustrated that Buster said: "George is looking quite good in there, he's putting his punches together. I want to nip this in the bud."

No way 1990 Foreman beats 'Tokyo' Douglas. That version of Douglas had everything with which to trouble Foreman: great movement, hard, snappy left jab, size, reach, boxing skill. Douglas would not plod in and stand in front of Foreman; he would be boxing, moving, scoring. I doubt the fight would be all that competitive; Foreman might win a round or two over the course of the fight, but I think Douglas virtually shuts him out.

I'd rather see that version of Douglas against prime Riddick Bowe.

 

Well, Douglas had all the tools that Riddick Bowe did, and Bowe trounced Holyfield in fight number one. I actually think Douglas moved better and was more fluid than Bowe, but I think Bowe was a slightly harder puncher and better inside fighter.

 

Foreman carefully handpicked his opponents during his comeback for a reason: he was far, far from being unbeatable. And a guy like Douglas would be the last guy comeback Foreman would want to fight -- unless it was for a multi-million dollar title fight

 

Anyone who believes the Douglas that beat Tyson in Tokyo, was the same blubber whale who turned up for the money against Holyfield, is either blind, or a fvcking idiot. Either way they should be disqualified from spreading their Tyson ass licking on yet another thread.

1990 Douglas could easily pick George apart from the outside, for a comfortable points win.
