McGrain, stop defending Lewis' high trunks (or protector):yep It was ridiculously high and reminded me Steve Smoger with his punts up to chest.

Lewis should be ashamed of himself for wearing his guard 6 inches above the norm to cover areas from legal body shots. This was done un-purpose and the extra foam and padding most certainly does mitigate the effect of body shots.

Having said that, Lewis won the fight. There weren’t many hard shots landed in this match to award a round on power over activity. Holyfield's aggression wasn’t frequent enough in many rounds to over come Lewis superior amount of punches thrown and landed.

I can't see how anyone had Holyfield up by a couple of rounds. Are you saying you saw it Holyfield 8, Lewis 4?

Every word i've said on the subject is accurate, and I stand by it.

Why should Lewis be ashamed of himself. It's the ref who shouldn't have allowed it. Like Holyfield's headbutting, if the ref isn't going to call it, why stop doing it?

I don't understand how anyone could have Holyfield winning that fight either. It was at best 7-5 for Lewis and it was a very easy fight to score.

Ok. Lewis always tried to use every possible advatage, legit or no, and I don't blame him, too. It this case, Lewis was preparing for better version of Holy and high trunks should've helped him avoid any attacks to the body.

In other fights, Lewis used other 'little' secrets. Holding and hitting is his best illegal weapon. Ask Michael Grant and Tyson. And Lennox would've easily won without fouls.

Against Vitali there was a moment with Lewis holding Vitali and hitting him to the body - 12 punches in a row. The ref allowed him.

Lewis was like Hopkins, he used dirty tricks whenever he was allowed to, so I can't blame neither him nor Bernard or Evander for his headbutts.

Rules are there to ensure a fair fight. When one fighter has an unfair advantage, its not good for the game. We can agree the ref blew that call, and the fight was easy to score.

In addition to the hitting and holding, Lewis grabbed Vitali by the shoulders, pressed his weight down and flopped down on a fallen Vitali. It was a take down done un-purpose, possibly to test how sound Vitali's knee was. Watch it in slow motion. Other times Lewis stuck his wired up hair in the cut region. Not once or twice, but 10+ times.

Yeah, Lewis was a pretty dirty fighter and it was most definitely a part of what made him so dangerous.

    Might ?
You'd hope that a protector will take a whole lot of sting out of a punch.

It makes a complete mockery of the contest.
The integrity of the contest suffers greatly.
And it's not helped by camp Holyfield's acquiescence, and him obviously 'fighting round it'.

It's akin to a goalkeeper moving the goalposts, or tennis players re-drawing the court lines.
But boxing being a sideshow run by a corrupt code that spectators don't understand, it's just one of those things. Like dodgy decisions and stupid world titles.

In fact, I'd even forgotten about it until you guys brought it up ! :fire

Yeah, I admired the way the brutalized Michael Grant with foul blows.
Really uncalled for, but truly professional. :good

Nah, it really doesn't. It would have if Holyfield was the kind of puncher and/or body-puncher that would have changed that up, possibly, but it's not like he had that reputation really. It's unfair, it's unreasonable, but it wasn't a concern for Holyfield or the official, so I think you go far too far.

    Still, it was unfortunate.

Certainly no evidence presented itself during the 24 rounds they shared in the ring that fight-changing body-punches were in the offing, no.

I'm sure if Holyfield or his management felt that the protector was the difference between his winning and losing they would have said something.
