Which MW champion stands the best chance of knocking out Hagler?

A Fitzsimmons hook on the counter would test that chin better than any other.

If not drop, they would crank Marvin's neck and cause damage. Too many could result in a stoppage.

There's also Ketchel - a man who kept throwing bombs when exhausted, for twenty plus rounds. He'd make the Mugabi bout feel like sparring.

Maybe Hagler's chin would prevail again, but, considering who these two dispatched, I'd be on standby for the wobbles.

 

Maybe Valdez. He'd have to land as good a shot as he did on Briscoe though, and that is a very hard ask. I'd say 19 times out of 20 Hagler beats Valdez, and it'd be many more fights for me to give Valdez a chance of actually landing that kinda' peach.

 

Very good post, but the footage of them suggests Hagler would outbox them.

As it would be a minute punchers chance anyway, these two are as good a pick as any.

 

Possibly, though whenever a fantasy bout is in question I envision a compromise regarding eras, i.e. these bouts would take place in the 1940s.

 

Unless specified, I envision a 15 round bout where each fighter uses their own equipment (I.e Fitz would wear 4oz gloves but Hagler would get a gum shield and ball protector) and they fight under a fair rule set; not excessive clinching, no back hands, fighters must return to a neutral corner.

 

If Mugabi couldn't knock Hagler out, or down even, then I don't think anyone would and that includes GGG.

 

Fitzsimmons is your best bet.

 

As stated by someone earlier. If Hearns and Mugabi couldn't even deter him from coming, much less drop the guy, I don't see ANY Middleweight doing it.

 

Someone said they think that Golovkin would knockout James Toney. I'm not sure I can see anyone under heavyweight doing this.

 

There are a number of guys with a chance of it (160's history is loaded with skilled punchers), but none I'd favor to do the trick.

I'll need to think on who'd have the best shot at it....I'm thinking perhaps going against the grain and selecting a massive body puncher may be a better choice than a headhunter. While Hagler didn't necessarily show a weakness to body punchers, the right body shots cripple anyone.

 

Question. Was the Juan Roldan knockdown of Hagler even considered by most as legit?

 

I just watched the Valdez knockout of Briscoe, and what's remarkable is that Bennie has landed a bomb just before he gets nailed. One of the strangest stoppages I have seen!
