It's so easy to hype this guy, just look at this sales pitch I got for ya. I wrote this a year ago on my boxing log I didn't even realise until today - I bolded parts for better organisation. Artur Beterbiev Before Olympics 2012, he had an amateur career record of 77 wins, 6 losses, 1 DQ loss and a massive 36 stoppages (since 2001 in an official amateur record list which didn't count some of the many guys he beat in certain tournaments leading up to the finals of those tournaments - so obviously the stoppages are even higher than recorded in terms of overall percentage, as it's easier to get KO's on the first/second round opponents than the elites that remain in tournaments at the end)... ...That is unbelievable, especially from a guy who moved up to heavyweight and has now come back down to fight at light heavyweight. You can only imagine the extent of his power he'll have debuting at light heavyweight in 12 round pro fights with less padded gloves and no headgear. - Beterbiev's stoppage record is the highest in history since the days of the amateur headgear. - He has monsters, ATG wins on his resume i.e Mekhontsev, Atoev etc. - Him and Lomachenko over the last few years as amateurs were considered the APB best amateur boxers. - Solid pro style, great body puncher too, very accurate and very strong Beterbiev's Losses He lost to Usyk twice - He is 1-2 against Usyk which could easily be 2-1 to Beterbiev. Context: He beat up Usyk like no other in the Olympics, getting a standing 8 count or a knockdown on Usyk (a guy who doesn't get dropped by heavys). - Beterbiev arguably won the latest fight against Usyk, it was pretty even. - Usyk's bigger size helped him. Lost to a monster Abbos Atoev (the guy who beat Kovalev) but Beterbiev avenged that loss a year later. Lost to Imre Szello (a loss on countback and handily beat him two years earlier in the 2007 World Championships) Lost to Zhang Xiaoping - a loss which is considered a big robbery Lost to Mihail Gala - someone who's not on his level and this was back in 2005. Lost to Pavel Nikitayev - a guy who hasn't been at elite amateur level This win-loss ratio is the best in the Olympics 2012 of the medalists other than Anthony Joshua and Vasiliy Lomachenko. Win-loss ratios amongst medalists in Olympics were on average 3 wins to 1 loss, sometimes 1 win to 1 loss. EDIT: I would add that Artur Beterbiev's wins does not even consider the number of times/fighters he dropped in fights. Judging by his stoppage record, I imagine it's a fair number.
Im sorry . Not yet . As much as I love a Russian wrecking machine , I just cant say ima believer . I need to see WAY more fights against Top opposition before I can comment .
You Beterbeliev, the only fighter I see him losing to is Andre Ward, and I still think Beterbiev still has a shot against Ward. Beterbiev is going to be chasing down Ward for 12 rounds, with his elite skills+elite punching power+elite strength/size.
lol I may as well have said Michael Spinks is favoured to beat Beterbiev because like Spinks, Ward aint fighting again
Ward won't have the strenght advantage inside vs him, unlike vs other oponnents (for ex Croch, Abraham, ...) If you don't let Ward get the advantage on the inside, that's already half the battle won vs him.
