One vote for terrible win with no explanation. Does this mean Vits is irrelevant in the big scheme of things and was nevery very good as to rate higher? Enquiring minds want to know!
Its a legit question designed to expose either honest opinions or double standards. If it not b at the least a good win than what does that say about Vits? In my opinion, even in losing its was Vits best fight and the reason i can envision him being a problem for almost any heavyweight in history. Without that fight he would have been remembered as a quitter who feasted on weak comp.
He ¨won¨ due to a lucky cut + a combination of dirty tactics + biased doctor, referee and venue Vitali was ahead on the scorecards when the dubious stoppage happened. it's a great victory because Vitali is probably the hw H2H GOAT , but it's a tainted victory regardless, since he only got that W due to a lucky combination of circumstances Vitali would have destroyed him in the rematch, that's why Lewis had to run for the hills this victory is great and terrible at the same time. see above why
I think under the circumstances it was a very good win. As Lampley said, it was a pier 6 brawl. And personally I think this fight gets criticised way too much. Credit should go to both fighters, even if was somewhat sloppy.
This is so much bull **** it's hard to breath around here. Give me a ****ing break. Anyone who knows boxing knows when a punch is thrown with bad intentions and does damage it's exactly what was intended. And the fact that Lewis was walking throw Vitali's punches and the end of the fight, a round that all 3 judges scored for Lewis tells me you don't know **** about boxing. And there was nothing dubious about that stoppage, do you even watch boxing? Even the doctor said it was one of the worst cuts he's ever seen, and I've been watching boxing for over 40 years and I'd be hard pressed to identify another fighter who sustained a worse cut.
Terrible. The victory he received had nothing to do with skill and everything to do with luck. Vitali was handily winning the fight. The stoppage was questionable, the cut was no worse at the end of round 5 as it after round 6. What was clear at the end of round 6 was that Lewis was finished. His legs were completely gone as Vitali wrestled him across the ring in the waning seconds and when he plopped himself on the stool. Big heavys don't recover after they lose their legs and at that point they are much easier to put down. Vitali would have stopped him in the 7th in his state. He got lucky and He knew it. That's why he made one pathetic excuse after another to delay the rematch then retired right before he was stripped of his title and couldn't duck anymore.
:|:| "Handily winning the fight" You mean getting holes punched in his face and then getting TKO'D? TKO6, Klittard. :hi::hi::happy
Handily winning the fight as he was up 4-2. The cut opened from a grazing punch in the third where the seam of Lewis' glove cut the eye. Complete luck. Are you gonna mention how Lewis was cheating constantly by holding and hitting? Do you know what the difference between a doctor stoppage and a TKO is? Guess not. Now go back to making threads on how Void Duckweather is the greatest fighter who ever lived.
So what you're trying to say is that its a terrible win because Vits lost and couldnt do what supposed lesser fighters McCall and Rahman did to a younger better version of Lewis. Im starting to see your point. You're convincing me. Not because of this so called "lucky punch", but because maybe, just maybe Vits is overrated.
It seems some poster want to have their cake and eat it to. Im in agreement pretty much with you though. Lewis stopped the best fighter in the division and he did it after a shaky start. Good win indeed. Unless of course you dontbrate Vits so highly as you've already pointed out. :good
Lewis punched holes in vitali`s face and got the stoppage. Deal with it sucka. Lewis TKO6, forevermore
Vitali stepped in on short notice and outclassed Lewis over 6 rounds... Lennox said after the fight he would rematch Vitali, but after the destruction of Kirk Johnson, Lennox had second thoughts and decided to call it a day. He knew he couldn't "beat" Vitali again.
