Christopher Mark Algieri is a 31 year old 5'10 Welterweight with a 20-2 8 KO's record. He has a Bachelor’s in Healthcare Science from Stony Brook and a Master’s from the New York Institute of Technology, so he's smarter than most boxers, he was a blackbelt at 15 and was the Captain of the Varsity Squad Wrestling team at St. Anthony's High School, then he went on to become an undefeated Kickboxing Champion with a 20-0 record as a Pro. He eats right, trains right, unorthodox, awkward, is damn good looking and is very, very slick, he's a potential cash cow superstar in the making. Algieri is the wholesome fresh faced epitome of an All American-American the girls will love him, and go to see him just like they did with Oscar, which makes promoters a lot more Money$$$ which makes promoters very happy:yep Algieri could very well be the next big thing. Algieri has faced one of the stiffest runs in Boxing he doesn't duck the big fights after pulling the upset over Provonikov which I predicted he would, he took a fight against Pacquiao which was a disaster, but it was far too soon for a step up that big, but he still finished the fight when many predicted a KO, and after the disastrous corner work from Tim Lane he rightfully cut him lose and holed up with Kovalev uber trainer John David Jackson. This seems like it could be a very fruitful pairing since in a very short amount of time he switched from a retreating counter puncher to a bobbing and weaving pressure fighter. He put on a great performance against Khan and on my card won, a draw would be fine but of course Khan won the lopsided decision. So Check Chis Out. :bbb:bbb:bbb:bbb

This is the Prospect Thread I would have made.

No one is giving Chris a chance at beating Manny Pacquiao, which he very well may not, but isn't that what they said about Chris and Provodnikov, and look what happened, outside of the first round Algieri boxed circles around Ruslan, never losing his poise or composure once even after having his eye swelled shut in round 1, Ruslan like the Siberian Bull that he is, was charging with all his might all the while Chris bobbed, weaved, rolled with, and slipped almost every punch Ruslan threw. And comprehensively outboxed him for the rest of the fight, while many rounds seemed closer than they really were based on the perception that Algieri was badly hurt and it was only a matter of time before Ruslan stopped him, which can lead to a very bad misjudging of what your actually watching.
The fact remains that Algieri outlanded Ruslan 288-205, Mayweather only outlanded Maidana by 9 punches in their fight, Chris outlanded Ruslan by 83.
Manny is not nearly the puncher that Ruslan is anymore, so the idea of Algieri being hurt, while always a possibility, seems very unlikely,
Algieri is a counter puncher like Marquez but not quite as good, he's close to being Bradley's equal when it comes to being hard to hit, and he has Margarito's size advantage, but unlike Tony he knows how to use his height to his advantage and box tall not hunch over and walk into to countless punches. He on paper is a terrible opponent for Manny, while Manny is next level, there are some styles that give him problems, and Algieri possesses a few of them.
This will be a far more competitive fight than many believe it to be, there is even a possibility that he may win, so don't be shocked if it happens.

Postscript: I Was Wrong.:D Like I said before this was a huge stretch.:patsch

I think there is no chance in hell Paquiao manages to hurt Algieri. Provodnikov hits harder and is more of a pressure fighter. And Provodnikov could do nothing and got schooled.

Algieri's size advantage over Paquiao is absurd, and having a good jab and moving a lot he could easily outpoint him.

It won't be an easy fight for PAquiao, he'll have to be on fire to move in and out that huge reach and land enough to stay ahead on points.

But no chance to hurt Chris, none.

Algieri has been stopped before by a punch (in a kickboxing bout), don't think Pacquiao will get the stoppage but wouldn't rule it out.

I think Pac is going to stop him, his in and out style is going to give Algeri fits.

Pacquiao doesn't fight as he used to, he doesn't go all out in and look to destroy and stop opponents. I'm expecting Pacquiao to win this by UD.

that ONLY means he is more educated than most boxers, that does NOT make one smarter.

fyi: being educated and being smart are completely different

they are underestimating him just watching the press conference shows it..........point is many people feel this is a easy fight when it is not based on contrasts of styles............chris is very very hungry for success pac is to focused on basketball....................

I wish both fighters the best. I applaud Chris for taking on Manny. I think Manny will be too much for Chris & win a decision or late stoppage.
But most of all Let the best man win with no contraversy

I think the angles, speed and volume of punches are what separates PAC from the straight forward no lateral movement of the Mad Russian.

Chris will have his hands full as PAC is not going to just walk straight into jabs all night, he will slip the jab, pivot and pop off a combo then be out of range.
