He was the 3rd man in the ring. He got Walcott vs Louis 1, correct. He was also a hands off ref that was rather slow to enforce the rules.

Idiot! I quoted Joe Louis himself. I have seen much of the footage on Walcott vs Louis 1. I have also noted the loud booing of the crowd when the decision was announced and Joe Louis's body language was that of the loser.

Didn't Louis leave the ring before the decision was announced?

Now read this: Based on what I have seen Walcott was the better, and based on a 10 point must system, Walcott has two 10-8 rounds and would have won..even with the scoring form the judges who gave it to Louis.

John Garfield said those at the match felt Walcott won. He was there. As usual you avoid the points made.

The fight was not a stinker if you value the skills that Walcott showed. He moved, boxed, and countered beautifully and showed top ring generalship. Louis could't hit the moving target, nor did he had the footwork needed to cut off the ring.

I already quoted what Louis said, and how he acted. He knew he lost. But in boxing, there can be some home cooking if you don't KO the champion and give up the final two rounds bad decisions can hapeen.

 

Bull****. As usual. Joe Louis felt he won the fight. Said so publicly many times. In fact in their joint appearance on TWIW Gowdy asks Louis if he felt he won and Louis says yes to which Walcott replies "You cant believe that Joe."

Also, to say youve seen "much" of FOOTAGE implying that youve seen much of the entire fight is false. Maybe at most 1/3 of that fight footage exists. Id estimate less. This is like you claiming youve seen more of Johnson-Moran than actually exists or Langford-Hague. Typical lies from someone who wants to pretend he has access to secret knowledge no one else does.

In reality, despite the controversy, the radio announcers were adamant that Walcott ran A LOT for a guy who was trying to take the championship and implied that this counted against him. In fact one characterized his backpeddling as "Walcott put on the flight from Moscow." alluding to the famous retreat. There was enough ammunition on both sides for an argument.

 

Also, a fair few ringside reporters did think Louis had won.
