Fighters with great chins don't get rocked by an old jones and Hopkins.

    Sloppy footwork

Unorthodox boxing does not equal great boxing.

He had heart I can give you that.

Idk what adversity he overcame, but ok

RJJ wins a clear but competitive decision.

Calzaghe's resume maybe lacking but he was better than his resume suggests. Fast hands and feet, solid power, good chin, southpaw, tremendous work rate and ability to adjust mid fight. His only real weaknesses was he was open to the right hand, had brittle hands and had a tendency of staying in range a little too long after getting his own shots off.

You can't argue it, if you've watched them both.

I'm not talking about a near 40 year old Roy.

I'm looking at him in his 90's peak, at 25/26

    Stamina.

Joe without a doubt had the better stamina. He spent years running 7 miles plus each day in the welsh mountains. He really was super fit, and his stamina deserves an enormous amount of respect.

    Work rate.

As above. He had a great engine, and could wear guys down.

    Chin.

Joe was dropped a few times, and it didn't faze him. He never looked hurt, and he came back stronger.

    Footwork.

Roy had superior footwork. Leaping in and out of range, often from unorthodox angles, while hardly taking anything in return. His balance was amazing, and his feints opened up many opportunities for him. He barely lost a round in his prime.

    Hand speed.

Joe had fantastic hand speed, but a lot of shots were cuffs, and he concentrated more on volume than accuracy. Roy had great hand speed, his shots were precise, and he was so quick, he could often throw lead shots.

    Reflexes.

How can you possibly have scored that even? Come on. Joe as great as he was, was always susceptible to right hands. Roy had unbelievable reflexes, and got away with murder in his 20's.

    Timing.

Forget 2008. Nobody is talking about 2008. Read the thread title. Roy had impeccable timing.

    Accuracy.

I'm sorry Bailey, but this isn't even up for debate. Roy was far more accurate.

    Defence.

Again, read the thread title. Roy's defence was unorthodox, but the fact is, he was barely touched in his 20's. He was tremendously hard to hit clean back then.

    Power.

I can't see how you can debate this topic. Roy definitely had more power.

    Shot variation.

I've saved the best until last. I had to laugh when you picked Joe.

    Come on.

Shot variation covers each fighters complete arsenal.

It's not even up for debate.

How many hooks did Joe throw?

How often did he throw the uppercut?

How often did he throw body shots?

Roy used to throw double hooks to the body and head, and throw uppercuts off either hand.

He also had a great jab when he needed it.

He also threw lead shots, especially the straight right, and he used to switch to southpaw, which meant he could throw all of the above, but in reverse.

He could throw left hooks, right hooks, and double and triple them.

He had far more shots in his locker.

I cannot believe that you think Joe threw more variations of shots than Roy.

    It's laughable.

With regards to a fight at SMW while both prime, I can't see how Joe could have beaten him.

Roy was just an all round better fighter.

More skill, faster, with more power and accuracy, against a guy who although was great in his own right, was always relatively easy to hit.

Roy by comfortable decision, or if Joe came forward and was aggressive, a TKO.

Didn't Calzaghe say he nearly went out from the Jones shot?

Joey was down more times than Ward against non-punchers and don't you and your boys claim Ward is packing a glass chin?

I believe the title says prime for prime. Which means freakish speed and athleticism counts.

    Are you for real?

Do you think any fighter with great speed and athleticism, could just throw combo's like how Roy used to?

Yes, he relied heavily on his athletic gifts, but he also had great skills.

lol. I almost forgot to delete the uncensored versions from my PC. :patsch

Yeah. The dick one is particularly unsightly. I was going to say that Roy has a rather unattractive weapon on him but that could be construed as a bit gay, as in that I find other dicks attractive, which for the record I definitely don't. lol
