Ali had more left than Frazier and would have stopped him in the 15th imo ,possibly causing him irreparable damage. Futch did the right thing,Frazier was done, taking full blooded right hands without reply, behind on points what possible reason was there to allow him to continue? **** me you did it again!atsch RACIST. Think of the same number of letters as ******
Angelo Dundee wrote that Clay had decided to quit and demanded that Dundee cut his gloves off. Dundee said he [Dundee] was the only thing that stopped him. As far as I know, Dundee was not known as a liar. He was there and knew what happened. I think we should believe him.
Ali and Joe were true champs, if nothing elese, and they didn't know how or when to quit. It is hard to imagine Ali getting KOd or quitting. Similarly, it is hard to imagine Joe quitting in the 15th round. You could see that before in KIngston against Foreman...Joe just didn't know how to give up. because he was ready to keep fighting Foreman to the death. Dundee did the human thing in Manila stopping the fight, protecting Joe of himself.
This is true. I believe Ali sited something on Listons gloves was getting into his eyes, impeding his vision, and Dundee rinsed his eyes with water and sent him out for the next round. I very much doubt Ali wanted to quit though, probably just wanted reassurance from his trainer.
As I said on my earlier post,I interpret that as a moment of panic. Going on what we know about him,can you seriously imagine Ali quitting ?
Ali said he wanted Angelo to cut the gloves off to show the world there was "wrong doing". Liston couldn't do much with a half blinded Ali, as we saw in the next round.
This is funny. Sure he's more protected on the floor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUQNKb_1xlc View the 1:20 mark of the above link. Ali does not look like a man with stamina to fight what could have been a tough final round. Bottom line. Ali collapsed while claiming his victory and told a reporter the final rounds were "the closest thing to dying I know of.
Just when I think you cannot make a remark stupider than your last ,you prove me wrong! Frazier was absolutely DONE! If he had answered the bell for the last round he would have ended up on the canvas, possibly permanently.
You don't get it do you? Ali had nothing left after the 14th. Definitely not enough for a knockout. Ali was on the canvas after the bout if he continued it would've been a very dull round with maybe even Frazier knocking him out.
You may be right about it being mental. That's one way to look at it. On the other hand I can't help but think of Robinson/Maxim. Ray was never stopped himself before or after. That was in a fight where he was dominating and took very little punishment. Ali was winning and he had peppered Joe in those two rounds 13 and 14. He threw an uncommon # of punches for a heavyweight especially late in a fight. Frazier had punished Ali to the body for those first 11 rounds. Not many could've taken half of what Frazier dished out that day. It was one of the fastest heavyweight fights you'll ever see. The pace was unbelievable.
