I have to admit... Taylor looked awful... He should not be boxing anymore. Soliman getting the title in the first place was practically a fluke. I mean the guy is interesting and he works hard, but the IBF title has been on a bum carosel lately... Geale, Barker, Sturm, Soliman, Taylor.... None of these guys are that bad, I just don't think of them as "world champions"... Taylor was barely able to use his jab. Seemed like his speed was not there anymore either. He is a very OLD 36... Speaking of which do yall think it would be possible for BHOP to come down to 160 again? Maybe get his revenge? :smoke
I forgot about that. That was a stink fest. But I felt the quality of guys in the ring (Vazquez and Bey) was still better than what we observed the other night...
There are so many belts and weight classes, I find it very hard to believe Soliman v Taylor would be the worst ever! However you do make a good point, all of those dudes you mentioned although very good fighters, in any normal boxing universe, not one of them should have been recognised as a 'World Champion'.
Well Sylvester was the world champion some years ago. Karmazin draw with Sylvester and was knocked out by Geale Geale deserved the shot and dethroned Sylvester ... he was a good champ and unified with Sturm. Barker dethroned Geale in a good fight. Sturm luckily stopped Barker, who injured his hip. Soliman beat Sturm who always had problems with fighters with a higher workrate (like in his fight with Gevor some years earlier). Taylor luckily beat Soliman who was injured, too. Maybe Taylor is a bit lucky for being a world champion atm. He wouldn't be, if Soliman wouldn't have injured his leg. Barker may still be champion, if his hip would be ok. BTW ... Chagaev vs Oquendo... that was also called a "title fight" (by the always funny WBA)
What a weak bunch of middleweights u mention above...... Golovkin is superior by a long way as seen by his demolition of Geale
It was an insult to any self respecting fighter that calls himself a "World Champion". It was God awful! Both fighters are an abomination.
Define "worst", theres been some ridiculously one sided title fights in recent years, largely in the HW division
I do think people are forgetting that solimans style makes people look bad no matter if they win or lose. He is just a very awkward fighter. We will get a better understanding of Taylor if he fights a more natural boxer style. He looked good against Caleb Truax a year ago and that win is looking better and better based on how Caleb has moved thru the ranks recently. Still he needs to stay away from the top fighters
In terms of watchable aesthetics or world title bout worthiness? In either case then, no - Brian Magee vs. Jaime Barboza is still worse by far.
Well Soliman can make any fight look like the worst fight in any era. He is a nice guy with a great story, but he is just brutal to watch, let alone fight. I give Taylor a lot of credit, since he's been out of the ring and was rusty, plus he had to go up against a very awkward fighter. Taylor took a couple of rounds to find the range and once he did, he started tagging Soliman with jabs and right hands.
one of the worst of all time. it was a grab, grope, slap, and tickle fight. probably followed up with a pillow fight in the dressing room.
