I guess that when Foreman got back into the game, he must have expected that he was probably going to have to meet Tyson at some point. That is not to say that he was not relieved when the title passed into the hands of weaker fighters.
Why would he be relieved, the fairytale ending was briefly stolen from him when Tyson was knocked out by the journeyman Douglas. Foreman promised he would have taken out Tyson in under 3 rounds that's how confident he was.

At first Foreman's comeback was considered a joke. When it got serious, and Foreman flattened Cooney, Tyson was upset by Douglas the following month. So Foreman eventually gets his first shot against Douglas' conqueror, Holyfield. When Foreman upset Moorer, Tyson was still doing time, and when he did come out, it was clear Tyson needed to establish himself again. Tyson decides on a big money tune up with a seemingly shot Holyfield and loses, Foreman 'loses' the Briggs bout and calls it a day. Tyson/Foreman was always a fight on the horizon, a fight either could take after their next bout.
