And outside of their fights with Mayweather/Pacquiao, whats the best numbers Canelo/Cotto ahve ever done on their own?
But he kicks all Mexicans A$$e$ ,both Promotional companies will lose ,but Mayweather money is written in stones so he wins either way.
May 2nd is a long way off, and there plenty of fights that could made by then. I would feel if a feel a loss if Floyd were to fight any of Khan, Garcia, Brook, Thurman etc. because I wouldn't it be watching it live, I would be watching Cotto-Canelo. Having to choose between mega fights is a loss for fans.
Exactly! People are banking on Cotto-Canelo doing big numbers but I don't see this fight touching 1M. It's not impossible, but I don't see it. Neither guy has done anything PPV-wise that says different. The MGM is NOT booking anyone over Floyd in May or Sept, so forget it. Oscar knows this and is using these PPV dates to prop up his fighter. No different than Arum using Mayweather's name to prop up Pacquiao. That said, I'd love to see Cotto-Canelo. I'd favor Cotto slightly.
Mayweather gets $32mil guaranteed regardless, so it would be incredibly stupid of Cotto and Canelo to fight on the same date as him. Yes, they would still generate a lot of buys, but even if only 100k people bought Floyd's PPV, those would be buys that they're missing out on, and that's why there's zero chance of this happening.
This has definitely turned into quite a spicy topic for debate. It's basically no.2 and no.3, versus no.1 and TBA. Whilst Cotto and Canelo draw far fewer PPV's than Floyd individually, I think to match them against each other produces enough of a fan base reaction to CONTEND with Floyd. By that I mean, if Floyd opts to fight someone of a sub-par standard, he's in trouble. If however he chooses to fight Khan (which I think he will), I think he'll beat Canelo Cotto quite comfortably (even if Khan is who I consider to be sub-par in comparison to others). All you need do really is establish what sorta PPV numbers each fight would do if the other wasn't happening. Canelo vs Cotto is probably somewhere between 800K and 1m PPV's? May vs Khan would probably be somewhere between 1.3m and 1.5m? The problem with Canelo vs Cotto is while they probably would draw the majority of the Mexican and Puerto Rican PPV's, the combination of the American and UK PPV markets would simply be too big, this is a fight that's been being marketed for a long time now and you can bet your arse the campaign will be huge. That said however, against anyone else other than Khan or Pac, Floyd does run a risk of being outsold but I can't really see him going for anyone other than Khan in May. I think it's an easy nights work for Floyd, the money's there and there's none of the usual network/promotional issues to contend with. We should all know by now that whatever Floyd says in the press are just empty words spoken to feed his ego as being the money maker. Floyd would say he's not fighting Khan even if the contract was signed and sealed for May already.
