No he wouldnt. He simply isnt capable of that level of consistency, over that period of time. This content is protected This content is protected I would be strongly inclined to favour Lewis, and the Klitschko's over him. This content is protected
James Douglas has a top 5 resume for wins. Chronologically: Randall Cobb (Douglas only got a 3 days notice for it and still got the decision in the end), Greg Page, Dee Collier, Mike Williams, Trevor Berbick, Oliver McCall, Mike Tyson. And his opposition was even considerably tougher than this if counting his losses too. One could also count Dicky Ryan and David Jaco for noteworthy names.
At his best Bowe was great. But he was seldom there mentally or physically. Louis overall was more dangerous. If we are talking about a fast food joint, or buffet Bowe was the GOAT.
Bowe. It's really comparing apples to oranges. Bowe was a true superheavyweight(230+) who spent his entire career fighting other heavyweights(200+) and superheavyweights while Louis was a borderline cruiserweight for most of his career and fought many men well under the current heavyweight limit. Louis had great difficultly beating some of these small men like Billy Conn who was between 165 to 174 pounds depending on what source you read. Does anybody out here who thinks Billy Conn would have given Bowe problems? Bowe would have been ridiculed for even generating interest in the notion of fighting a featherfisted modern day super middleweight like Conn. Many of these small men were bums like Tony Musto 37-30...Bowe would have never been sanctioned to fight these small crude unskilled bums. Joe louis fought so many bums that when he went through all of them he had to fight some of them twice. While Louis could probably clean up all the pre 20's champs like a Dempsey, a fat Willard, Corbett, Sullivan etc I don't see a realistic chance of him doing very well at all against the modern crop of heavyweights who spent their entire careers consistently beating and knocking out other talented true heavyweights and superheavyweights at a high % like a Mike Tyson, a Lennox Lewis or the Klitschkos. Bowe at least I think could hang with this level of fighter.
But i wasn't talking about longevity. On Bowes best night he would be too much for Conn, Schmelling and Walcott. Jersey Joe probably give him the most trouble, the other two get steam rolled imo. I believe he matches up better to Tyson than Louis does. Both Louis and Bowe destroy both Klitschko. I like Bowe chances against Lennox better than Louis. Bowe was disconnected from boxing going in to fight Golota , but still was too much beast and had too much heart for him. Plus Golota was in the best form of his life then and was an excellent all rounder himself.
Hypothesis. Bowe was not in the same class as Tyson, Holyfield and Lewis, he was merely a stylistic foil for Holyfield. I am not saying that this is necessarily the case, but it is one possibility to consider.
