Turned pro at 17 years old and unless I'm mistaken from memory, I believe I saw is pro debut on TV from Auburn Hills in a fight that he won by first round KO. Caught a bunch of his fights as time went on. A good boxer with a lot of speed and decent power along with good backing for most of his career from Manny Steward. Never saw the Bramble fight but some believe he should have lost the decision. Beat some decent fighters in Frankie Randall and Daroll Coley, but seems to have had quite a bit of padding on that record. What do you think?
I loved watching him box but he always seemed to come up short. He had a very aesthetically pleasing style.
He was a good fighter. Not good enough to beat the truly elite weltweights, but if he were around TODAY he'd certainly win a strap, as he was a lot better than clowns like Andre Berto, Khan, and Shawn Porter.
Never was all that familiar with Carr, but from what I have seen he looked to have good talent. Most of his losses were against top-drawer fighters and that's nothing to be ashamed of.
He was fun to watch in his prospect days and highly touted in the beginning. A protege of Emmanuel Steward and one of exceptional talent. He just barely fell short of being a champion however.
He was fun to watch, and would have been a beltholder of some variety had he not the misfortune of being around in the middle of Trinidad/Quartey/De La Hoya era. Tough time for welterweight contenders, that period..........
Curry-Starling II was closely fought, but Curry pulled away. No one pushed Starling back before or after. Not even Nunn at middleweight.
Starling was hot and cold in terms of his output even at his peak. You seen the Villela fight? Break it down for me.
