Don't be fooled. Frazier's hatred of Ali never waned over the decades. He would only periodically say good things about Ali when there was a financial incentive at stake, after which he would return to form. He never forgave Ali for the cruel taunts before their fights that falsely portrayed him as being a servant of the white establishment which alienated him from a large portion of the black community and ruining his marketability. He blamed Ali's trash talk for making his children targets of bullies at school,Ali's associations with the radical black muslims the reason why he recieved many death threats that forced him to relocate his family, the dehumanizing gorilla comments, dolls and tshirts that served to further humiliate him.

Ali never bothered to apologize to Frazier apart from that halfhearted excuse of an apology that published in a magazine during promotion of the 2001 Movie "Ali".

When Joe rightfully said Muhammad would have to give him an apology face to face, Ali was reported to have responded, "If you see Joe Frazier, tell him he is still is a gorilla".

Much has been done by the media over the years to sanctify Ali's image but in reality there were two sides to Ali. One being the overly represented benevolent public figure and the other a cruel, sadistic, deadbeat father, racist, philandering hypocrite.

    Good post.

I remember when Ali did an interview with Parkinson, and he started venting on and on about racial separation, and Parkinson's reply left him speechless.

He was unecessary cruel with his oponnents, baiting them constantly, which meant they were really fired up in the ring, bringing on more punishment for both fighters.

Maybe this was a prelude to his disease.

I wish the media made a more balanced portrait of him.

    Never a truer word spoken.
Great post. The bloke was an ******* to many, and did it so that he could get things his own way. How many people say Floyd Mayweather is a good bloke for constantly hanging ****, taunting and belittling opponents? They don't. Put Ali in the same boat then.

I read somewhere that Ali had Parkinsons from a young age, but the symptoms didnt really begin to show until later in life and had Ali not been a boxer, he still would have got Parkinsons

Well, Ali's neurological exams were all over the place after the Spinks fight; only outrageous corruption allowed him to carry on.

Which means he got it while under 40.
I would say it started after the first Frazier fight, and progressed with Norton, Foreman, etc...
Even Foster managed to clock him hard.
His great chin only made him soak more punishment.

So, it probably started at 32 , which is quite rare, even for Parkinsons.

Couldn't have said it better myself. People always want to anoint certain figures and sweep their shortcomings under the rug. I admire the positive things the man stood for, but I'm not going to sit up and pretend like he wasn't an ******* to opponents and womanizer. The good outweighs the bad in my opinion, but some act like the bad never existed. People can't be objective to save their lives.
