Yory boy...jesus christ. That fight was years after Campas looked a legit contender and Carr himself was past it too.both of them looked like ****.
Yeah the Carr and campas fight means nothing. They were done. It would've been a great matchup 6 years earlier.
Can't believe i've actually returned to this site after months away and been drawn into a debate over Oba Carr being as good a fighter as Donald Curry. This site has gone to ****.
Some nice debates going on here and interesting stuff. I'm learning things about Oba carr and some other fighters that I never knew before.
Dubblechin is a pure boxrec expert. This is the same guy who got upset because people took the side of an argument that used primary sources, over his which didn't. And argued 'til he was blue in the face over Bert Gilroy being a world class fighter. I wouldn't trust his judgement in the slightest. He actually just had the cheek to ask lora 'were you even watching boxing back then'....Christ.
Why the **** is the HIF the measuring point for a fighters ability??!?! Ernesto f u c k in g Marcel isn't even in the HOF!
I clearly remember Oba Carr, to he was Mr. Tuesday Night Fights. Always thought he was a talented fighter, and was surprised he never won a title. Seemed as thou he was always on the cusp. To me he clearly wasn't the talent Curry and Starling were. McCory and Colin Jones would beat him badly. Carr was good fighter, but you seem overly infatuated with him.
Can we judge a fighter based on how good he could've been under different? Not a part of the equation but as a whole? I was thinking of James J Corbett- could we argue that he was the best gloved heavyweight of his era because given 12 rounds he probably would've beaten Fitzsimmons and Jeffries (and he mightve beaten Fitz given a second chance). The rule set hurt Corbett just as much, if not more than you feel the quality of opposition hurt Carr (although I'm sure many would think that Curry could pull off a de la Hoya against Tito). So would you be comfortable calling Corbett the best heavyweight of his era?
