I think Louis was had too much power and combination ability but the Mongoose was crafty and had very good counter power so he could have his moments unless Joe came out quickly like he did vs Baer and Schmeling 2, still the Mongoose knew his business and would go out on his shield with every attempt to win.
I think Jack Blackburn would make sure Louis jumped all over Moore early so as not to give Archie the time to pick his shots. Each carefully-placed Moore clout would have a bad residual effect as the fight wore on and if he made it into the later rounds it would make him dangerous. But I don't see him lasting that long. Moore isn't a dancer, he's an engage-er. He will mix with Louis and I think that ultimately gets him killed within 7. There could be a few interesting moments along the way though :smoke
Yes, i think Joe is too much of a Precision Predator to be denied for Long by Archie's Defence.. As has been mentioned Archie is not a Runner... So Joe will open Archie up ... It's one of those Bad style match-up's i think - Put Archie in with some who gave Joe Trouble like Jersey Joe or Tommy Farr and Archie has Chances... But when Joe's Smart Bombs start Landing...
Archie Moore once said that of all the fighters he feared the most, Joe Louis was #1. Be a tough night for the Mongoose me thinks
Moore is one of the greatest light heavyweights of all time and a pound for pound great but he never really had success with top level heavyweights. He fought four heavyweight champions, three fights with Charles, fights with Marciano, Patterson and Ali(then Clay) and lost to all of them, all in all out of the six fights he had with heavyweight champions he lost them all, four by KO. Joe Louis is one of the heavyweight greats, his records for title reign and title defenses may never be beat, he was very proficient technically and one of the most powerful punchers in History, more powerful than Charles, Ali, Patterson and arguably Marciano. Given Moore's record with heavyweights and Louis' great power and ability I would pick Louis to win by KO inside eight.
A bit misleading as Moore was old against Marciano despite what many here dream and older v.s. Patterson and cartoonish v.s. Ali .. Charles was simply better H2H but from all I've read the fights were all very competitive ... I do remember reading somewhere that Moore said he did not think he could beat Joe Louis . I favor Louis ..
I think Louis stops him mid to late rounds with Moore having his moments. I think Moore has enough punching power to get some respect in there.
