Matteo Modugno is a 6'6.5 27 year old Heavyweight with a 15-0 8 KO's record. Born in Piacenza Emilia Romagna Italia, this big bald Italian Brute nicknamed Il Grissino (The Breadstick) came in second in the Italian Golden Glove, and went on to win a Silver Medal at the Italian Championships. He was a member of the Dolce & Gabbana Italia Thunder team at the WSB, where he was stopped by Usyk who's great and he had 33 amateur fights and won 22. This Gigante is a work in progress, and has been slowly but surely getting better all the time. While he certainly looks the part can this Granite faced Mountain of an Italian be a future Heavyweight Campione? So far as a pro he's looking pretty good? He's probably aiming at the EBU title at some point. I'm not sure about him making it on the world stage. He was never on Cammarelle level in Italy and to be honest, I don't expect much from him. His defense has a lot of holes and when he meets a somewhat decent boxer puncher, that will be exposed and he will lose. He's hardly going past fringe contenders, never mind the top guys. Also, Italian championship means more than the Italian professional title.
His nickname is breadstick(grissino) I was going to try and work pasta and breadstick together in the title but I didn't have close to enough roomatsch:yep
Is there anybody who has information why Modugno turned down the offer to fight against Erkan Teper for the EBU-EU-title? The fight received the highest bid from Tepers new promoter at a EBU purse bid, but Teper had to fight against Ouatah instead. Now the EBU wants again Teper to fight versus Modugno, but Teper will probably relinquish the title and fight for the IBF Intercontinental title instead (against Marcin Rekowski).
Madugno was supposed to fight Dereck Chisora for the Euro title last year but he pulled out and Chisora ended up fighting Ondrej Pala instead.
Russo would be a cruiserweight. He wouldn't have much chances against Usyk, but his style is very difficult to deal with, so he probably could beat one of the belt holders eventually. Unlike Modugno, Russo would probably have success on the world level. I'm not sure. Wasn't Johann Duhaupas the EBU-EU champion? Or he vacated the title? Anyway it could be that Modugno didn't like the idea of traveling to Germany to fight Teper considering he would probably have slim chance to win anyway. He likely didn't want a potential loss to another prospect this early in his career. It could be something else though.
