Mercer would have been a very dangerous opponent for Tyson: granite chin, punching power, tough as hell, and he would not be intimidated. Mercer by a mid to late round stoppage.
Mercer is ****ing overrated. The 42 years old Holmes beat the unbeatenn prime Mercer . This says all. The 18-9-0 Ferguson beat the prime Mercer. The prime Mercer couldn't knock the (14-11-1) Wills out(wud10) The prime Mercer-(22-6-1) Ocasio was a close fight(wsd8). The prime Mercer couldn't beat the (7-9-2) Wilson (Dsd10) Who cares a Tyson-Mercer fight? A no win situation for Tyson. Mercer was mediocre and sometimes a ****ing bum.
Im not going to comment on this, im just going to wait and see who comes out with the most ******ed answers Point to note: Mercer got his ass kicked in every single fight he was in, even the ones he won (Morrison, Damiani).
Funny how you didnt mention post prison in the opening post, but further on down now you have to resort to 'Post Prison Tyson'
Read the OP post will you, I said when they realistically could have met not in some alternate fantasy universe that you live in.
Fine, if you want to play that game. They were scheduled to fight in '02, But Tyson decided to face Lewis for more money.
Shall we take a trip down memory lane to see what Mercer was doing in 2002? From 96-02, Mercer hadnt beaten anyone in the top 20 and was then knocked out by Wladmir Klitscko.
And what the **** was Mike Tyson doing in 2002?? Mercer sure as hell put up a better fight against Wlad than Tyson did Lewis.
In that same period where Mercer fought nobodies 96-02 Tyson fought Holyfield, Golota, Botha, Nielson, Norris, Savarese and then Lewis. Even though he was finished as a fighter, he would have taken care of Mercer
The fight prior to Lewis he laboured to victory against Nielson, he hit with everything but the kitchen sink yet still struggled to get him out of there. Bringing all those names up means sweet **** all, Tyson was a terrible fighter come 02. He neither had the skills or the heart for a hard fight, Mercer wouldn't fall over easily and Tyson would probably quit or be stopped late.
