Jim Jeffries v Vitali Klitschko. 20rds, circa 1900's gloves. Who do you like?

Very intriguing fight as I think few could out box Vitali. In fact no man came close. The most he ever lost was 3 consensus rounds. That’s it. Not even Ali or Holmes could touch this. I also few could out last Jeffries in a 20 round match and Jeffries was probably the best heavyweight past 15 rounds.

Asking a modern fighter to go 20 rounds with a durable puncher who also had the stamina to fight 25 hard rounds as Jeffries did is asking a lot if the fight goes past 12 rounds. Since Vitali took a very good punch, the question is more about his stamina.

I do think Vitali had good stamina. He could move and box for the full 12 rounds. And his defense was rather good thanks to his height, reflexes, constant movement, and punch anticipation. If Vitali paced himself a bit more, he should be able to go 20.

I like Vitail via split decision based on superior out fighting skills, though I do think Jeffries has a real chance to win if Vitali takes enough body shots and slows down in the final rounds.

Jeffries went 20 rds or more 5 times ,the fly in the ointment is in only one of them was he facing a man anywhere near his size . Jeffries stamina to fight 25 hard rounds was proven against a 5'8" 183lbs Sharkey who was conceding 32lbs to him.Sharkey made the fight, he attacked all night Jeffries contented himself with countering him.
That would not work against a much bigger man who fights at distance,
Jeffries would be forced to make the running or be picked off at range.

How would Jeffries stamina hold up against a 6' 7" 248lbs man? We don't know.

The reply here is a good one. Yet when there was a Wlad vs. Johnson thread, you fail to use the same logic and pick Johnson on points! Wouldn’t Johnson who was even smaller, and didn't take as good as a punch, and didn't hit has hard in comparison to Jeffries the same problems?

Your reply here suggests a bit of intellectual dishonesty as the same does not apply to Johnson. In addition you fail to mention that Jeffries who floored every man he fought until his come back attempt, fought Sharkey with an injured left shoulder for 23 rounds and fought under hot lights. There was no one Vitali’s size and skills pre 1910.

If you look up Jeffries record, the bigger fighters he fought in his prime years from 200-215 pounds ( Rhulin, Kennedy, Munroe ) didn't last long.

Something tells me that a a 6-6 guy with modern world class boxing skills and a chip on his shoulder is going to ship a lot more damage than some midget from the docks or a pitter-patter Fancy Dan boxing instructor. I just don't see Jeffries taking the punishment Vitali would deliver in order to do any "outlasting"… Vitali by stoppage around round 9.

I can look at this 2 ways, one would be for the modern fighter who has every advantage except possibly strength or I can go with the old school natural strength and dominance of Jeffries. Hard to say how this would play out if we had a time machine because we dont....we got to go with the best of their times and both were at least the top of the Heep. I like Vitali over 12 rounds UD or Jeffires over 20 UD

This thread isn't about Vitali v Johnson and ,if you had taken the trouble to read all the posts on that thread you would have noticed that I haven't picked winner.
Where did you get your Johnson on points from?:huh
Which fighters did Jeffries face as champion that weighed 215lb?

Who did Jeffries face who was his own size? Ruhlin who had been ruined by Fitz?
Jeffries fought under hot lights ?
Didn't the 6 inches shorter ,32lbs lighter, Sharkey fight under the same lights?
Sharkey broke his thumb early in the fight,so maybe they were even steven on injuries?
Sharkey went 20 rounds with Jeffries to a decision in their first fight, some thought he deserved the decision.

Anything wrong with Jeffries arm in that fight?

I haven't even made a pick on either thread .Yet I'm being attacked? How phobically insecure are you?:patsch

I pick Vitali. Vitali may possibly be the best of all time, bar none.

If modern nutrition turns Marciano into a 6' 215 lb wrecker does it turn vitali into a 6'4" 220 lb dude?

    Too much what, exactly?

I don't seen anything at which he excels over Vitali including durability.
