If Marciano had carried on, how much longer would he have ruled?

I'd say he racks up wins against johansson, patterson, and Valdez, Cleveland Williams, by 58 or 59, he'd would have either lost to Liston or faded enough for Eddie Machen to outbox him.

 

He was having back trouble.
I believe he said he hurt his back in the Moore fight, but I can't find a source for that.

 

I suspect he gets to somewhere between Patterson and Liston.

If I had to call it I might pick Edie Machen.

 

I think Liston would have been the one to beat him.
He wouldn't have had any trouble with Patterson. I doubt Cus would have let Patterson fight him.
Machen or Folley would have been iffy.

 

If he retained the talent he showed against Moore I see him hanging around till 57 or so .. by that time age would have left him vulnerable to a Machen, Foley, Willaims and of course Liston ...

 

Saying that a shot marciano would not have any problwm with a young motivated and fast like hell patterson is the dumbest thing ever

 

I think that a fight with Patterson would go similar to the first Walcott fight, with Patterson using speed and movement to out-box Rocky before his fragile chin would provide his downfall. He'd then beat Johansson without too many problems. After that, he might have faded enough for Folley or Machen to outpoint him, or Williams to stop him on cuts. If he made it to Liston, he'd probably be so past it that Liston could win by KO/TKO within a couple rounds.

 

He said he injured his back tosing his daughter up in thr air before the ****ell fight.
He would have beaten Patterson, and would have killed Nino Valdes ( worse than Tyson beat Ruddock). Johansson, Williams and Satterfield would have been beaten. Sonny Liston would have been the one to have ended his reign.

 

Rocky had back issues. He could have fought 2-3 times. He said that when he retired, but I also think he knew the end was near.

 

I've always wondered; with all that "lightning speed" why Patterson couldn't stay away from Liston for more than 2 minutes.

 

Patterson was tailor made for Marciano, but much would have depended on how smart his management were. Even a fading Marciano would have been too much for Patterson around 1956. DAmato probably knew this, and might have figured that time was on his side, and his best bet was to wait for Rocky to get old or retire. Marciano’s retirement probably brought his plans forward a few years.

 

I agree. Unless Marciano was brought to the ring in a wheelchair, D'Amoto would not have let Patterson fight him.

 

At least until Tyson… possibly Lewis.
