Is GGG the best 160 since Hagler?

Are you expecting Hagler to stand there and let GGG pummel him to a KO? A guy with a certified granite chin that has knockout power of his own? More like GGG wouldn't last the full 12 rounds. GGGs chin is untested but we know that Hagler took bombs from all boxers and kept standing.

Sergio Martinez as well is an obvious one. A wide gap between Sergio and Golovkin.

Golovkin's notable wins are Geale and Macklin and if you dig down you can add Proksa, Rubio, Ouma, and Stevens but those guys wouldn't crack a lot of post-Hagler-MWs' top victories.

 

I just said that he could not that he would. Hagler had a legendary chin and I believe GGG has the power to crack that chin in one shot.
GGG's chin is certified steel, never knocked down in 381 amateur and pro fights.

 

What a Joke. An overweight Mexican nigh-on capitulates against Golovkin and someone now takes this as indication that he could knock Hagler out. Whatever next?

Benn and Eubank would take GGG apart

They lose to GGG all day, Roy Jones was very young also to go against a punhcer like that, He would also beat nunn, i think. He might beat Benn (cant say with his opponents), but he might come unstuck vs the very durable Eubank

 

That "overweight mexican" was a very durable fighter known for being able to absorb a great deal of punishment. He came in at 181 for a middleweight fight. When guys are bigger and heavier than their opponents(especially in the lower weights) it adds even more to their ability to absorb punishment. Nobody expected that GGG would put him away that early and viciously,nobody.
The shocking ease at which he dispatched the durable heavy Rubio had several people on this forum convinced that he is using performance enhancing drugs.

My belief in GGG's power is not just based on this one astonishing feat, it was all the knockouts before it. The demolishing of Ouma(who hadn't been stopped in 12 years), 1st round KO of Simon who had never been stopped, Proska(never had been stopped), Ishida(never had been stopped), Macklin,Adama,Geale,Stevens and Gabe Rosado who was so taken aback by GGG's power that he stated that his punches felt "different" than he had ever been hit before in his life. The only way Rosado could explain the unbelievable force in the fists of his opponent was that they must have been loaded.

GGG power also passes the eye test as well. Just look at the way his opponents' head snap when he hits them, the sound the punches make when they find the target, truly unsettling. Even the jab is a sufficient enough weapon to put opponents down:

Golovkin's superb defence also gets over looked. His ability to parry and slip punches is outstanding:

His chin of course is bulletproof in an amateur and pro career 381 fights he has never been knocked down or even hurt.

His amazing amateur career (345-5) gives him a huge experience advantage over his opponents and in the amateurs he brutally knocked out opponents on a regular basis like future IBF SMW champ Lucian Bute :

Could he KO Hagler, even with one punch? In my opinion he could, feel free to disagree with me.

Is he the best 160 since Hagler? I believe his is and could prove it. He can easily become undisputed champion of this weightclass if the top guys like lineal champ Miguel Cotto and his trainer Freddie Roach weren't running scared of him.

Not if they have left the best of themselves in the gym, trying to make weight, or are out of condition for some other reason and subsequently put up no sort of resistance - this made to look worse still when looking wide awake but quite indifferent about beating the count.

I'm not questioning the relative abilities or potential of Golovkin but to say he could one-punch KO Hagler is plain daft.

Hagler in 60+ fights only ever suffered one 'official' Knockdown; a pull down, rather than a legitimate KD. In his entire career, he was never close to being knocked out and was in with as big, if not bigger punchers than Golovkin.

So I do choose to disagree with you on that point, quite simply because there is no reasonable evidence to support such a claim.

In my opinion Rubio didn't look out of shape. He comes from a professionally run gym in Oxnard, CA and his great trainer Robert Garcia would never let his fighter come in out of shape for the biggest fight of his life. Garcia said Rubio had trained hard for the fight. Just because he had a difficult time making weight doesn't necessarily mean he is out of shape. Maybe he is just too big to make the weightclass anymore. How do you know how much the weight cut was detrimental to his ability to take punishment? If you think a fighter is weight drained just look at their day of fight weight. Rubio's quick surge back up to 181 pounds indicates his body had recovered. It wasn't like when weight drained Roy Jones weighed 180 pounds the day of his LHW fight with Tarver.


Maybe he couldn't put up resistance because the punches were too hard for his head.:yep
