Now that the Belfast IBF world bantamweight champion, Carl Frampton, is set to return to training big-time, with those hands having healed, the talk is returning to a domestic showdown with Scott Quigg.

Whilst Frampton admits he would like to get Quigg into the ring as soon as possible he readily accepts that he is obliged to make a mandatory defence first suggesting it will be against Chris Avalos.

However, when it comes to Quigg, Carl has remarked,

“I want to fight Scott Quigg next but I have to fight this mandatory challenger so that can’t happen.”

“But after that I can fight Quigg as a voluntary defence – the Odyssey Arena would be too small, it needs to be outdoor somewhere. You could have it in Belfast, maybe Windsor Park or Ravenhill, put 30,000 people in there in the summer time.”

I get the feeling that the Quigg camp might have something to say about fighting in Ireland but if some kind of compromise can be reached the perhaps, just perhaps, this domestic tear-up will happen!

    :good

Trouble is neither Winsor or Ravenhill can take over 20,000....

Both hold, or will hold ~18,000-18,500. Of course that's for football/rugby, so for boxing you could use most of the pitch for additional seating, so there's definitely a hefty attendance you could add to that.
But how much ?, and at what cost ?, because unless it allows more people and makes more money than the 21,000 Manchester Arena, then Eddie Hearn won't agree to it.

The problem is an arena of 25,000-30,000 is probably the most suitable size. So too big imo for any of the indoor arenas in the North or in Manchester. Do they look at outdoor arenas instead ?, surely City of Manchester stadium is too big ? and are the one's in Belfast big enough ?, or just go with the largest indoor they can ?

The old saying in boxing will likely decide what is done,
'If it makes money....it makes sense'.

outdoor football stadia don't work that well either as thousands would be 50-80 meters from the ring. The Titanic wasn't that bad and maybe could be expanded to 15,000 or so?
